Keep your heart healthy
Author: John Scott
This is one of those stories in which science and common sense seem to overlap. It should not surprise us that anxiety may be a contributing factor to heart problems. We've seen all too many movies and TV plots where the victim gets all stressed and, clutching his or her chest, then falls over moaning, "My heart is finally giving up my ghost." or words to that effect. Anyway, there's new research suggesting the way people are treated if they have an anxiety disorder may change their chances of survival. So, before we continue, here's a little challenge for you. Just what do you think the relationship is between anxiety and heart attacks? Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is increasingly severe worry without any specific cause. So, before you have a stroke or heart attack, the link is less clear. How are we to decide whether you have heart disease because you smoke, or are overweight, or have a poor level of health and never exercise, or have a general level of anxiety in your life? But once you have an "incident", this will naturally give you a real health problem to worry about. To that extent, the GAD stops being generalized and becomes the entirely understandable fear of death from a further "incident". Now there really is a choice to be made by the doctors treating you to decide what balance to strike in the treatment for the heart and the anxiety problems. But before the "incident". . . Recent research out of Holland followed just over one-thousand people whose health was less than perfect, but all had a stable heart. Of them 10% had GAD. Over time, the risk of heart attacks was 75% higher for those with GAD. This is not the first time research has shown anxiety as a major contributing cause of strokes and heart attacks but, because of the problems of identifying cause and effect, the results are not yet scientifically convincing. You first have to eliminate all the other contributing factors. Nevertheless, if you are young and have GAD, it may be worth having a full health check-up including your cardiovascular system. Just because these scientists are not convinced does not mean you should not protect yourself against the possibility. In this, Xanax will play an important role. As one of the best anti-anxiety drugs on the market, it will bring down the immediate level of anxiety. Remember this is a short-term measure to bring your body into a better balance and improve your quality of life. More importantly, it will give the doctors a chance to take blood pressure and other measures before and after reducing the stress. This can be a vital indicator of the actual contribution being made by the anxiety to your health problems. But, because Xanax can be habit-forming, you should not rely on it to provide preventative treatment against heart disease. There are other ways of achieving that result and your doctor will advise. To become dependent on Xanax is not a good price to pay for reducing the threat of heart disease. You should look at counseling and therapy as one option, and the range of other drugs available to control blood pressure, etc. You may also have to consider lifestyle changes to reduce weight and lower the level of cholesterol in your blood.

nervous occured w/out reason,no heart prob.medications is valium.how can i control my nervous?help me,?
its one year already im sufferring from nervous,my medication is valium. nervous attack without warning n no reasons. why am i goin to this stage. when im on attack i felt numbness of hands, dizziness, hard breathing, everytime my nervous occured im always brought to emergency and have oxygen, then they gave me valium. i want to escape to this kind of illness. im already on my late fifties. please do help me or any advice to any professional doctors
I did some reading on this topic, and you may very much be in need of B-complex vitamins. Try a good one-day vitamin (for those over 50) and I think you’ll notice some results in a few days. It’s worked for a close friend of mine.
What is a good treatment for high anxiety?
I take a supplement called Sam-e but sometimes it’s not enough as I get all worked up over things. I just found out my neighbor has bedbugs and have a horror that they may come over to my condo….friends say I am over re-acting and I probably am as they are just in her mattress now……but I get overly upset over other things that aren’t that bad too….getting ready to go to the gym….I know that will help me. I have had a panic attack 2 years ago and ended up overnight in the hospital as I thought it was a heart attack….the Dr. prescribed lexapro and I gained weight so stopped taking it and started taking Sam-e which is more expensive and he prescribed xanax (the generic one) 0.5mg. and said to take as needed and I don’t think I take it enough as I don’t want to get dependent one it…..got dependent long time ago on valium….the 30 pills he prescribed was last Nov.14th and said to take one half pill as needed and one for insomnia as needed.
xanax you are fine on, take it up to 2 times a week – 3 if needed , you will not have problems becoming dependant on them. you have been prescibed the lowest dose for your anxeity .25mg and for sleeping the next lowest .5mg
if you a nervous about the bed bugs call in exterminator to check the apt
good luck and take it easy
My heart will start to palpitate suddenly and stop so suddenly?
My heart will start to race suddenly and so badly i always feel as if i am going to black out. i will then try to get to the er to get oxygen but sometimes as i see the doctor with the stethoscope the attack stops or by the time i get in the taxi it stops. i am somethimes given xanax 25mg and valium. I was even put on paxil . what can i use as a home remedy to stop[ these attacks when they come on.
The same happened to me when i went to the doctor he told me addolessent girls have it happen to them all the time and can be due to depression or anxiety but for me it went away in a month or so
what is the best way to stop an anxiety attack?
i seem to get them more often. this last one i went to the hospital because i thought i was having a heart attack. i’ve seen my dr. and all she wants to do is put me on Valium……i don’t like taking pills…any suggestions?
This worked wonders when I was having panic attacks.
Is it Valium withdrawals?
Hello, I was in the ER Sunday night, and they prescribed me valium 2mg for apparently what they thought was a panic attack. I thought it was chest pain, and I was having a heart attack, but apparently the tests showed normal. So I started taking half of one Monday night, and another half tuesday morning, and tuesday night, and a half Wednesday(yesterday) morning. I decided after reading up on them, and since they are so addictive, that I would quit taking them unless I absolutley have to. Last night, I start getting this HORRIBLE headache and neck ache, taking an ibu profen and going to bed. Waking up this morning I still had it just as bad. Taking tylenol this time and 3 hours later still as bad as ever. Is this a withdrawal from not taking any of these meds, or is it possible to even have withdrawal after only taking for 2 days?
