I take Valium 20 mg in the morning and find myself having difficulty sleeping.?
I was just prescribed Valium for panic attacks. It sucks, I take 20mg in the morning but can’t stay asleep that night. I go to sleep fine but I wake up really early the next morning (4am), and can’t fall back asleep. This usually never happens so i’m positive it is a reaction to the valium. Do you think the dosage should be spread out? or is it because I literally just started taking them and my body has to adjust to the new chemical? I don’t want to take them everyday, I just want to take them occasionally without worrying about sleeping horribly. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
You were put on 20mg of Valium for panic attacks? That doesn’t sound right. There are much more effective drugs for panic disorder with less side effects.
Plus the last thing you want is an addiction to valium. It is most likely the most dangerous drug there is to withdrawal from.
But to answer your question, the 4am wakeup is likely due to the withdrawal from your body. I would suggest taking some in the morning and some in the night…but not 20mg.
Serious Sleeping Situation…?
I don’t sleep hardly at all at night.
I can’t get to sleep at a reasonable hour hardly ever and when I finally manage to drift off, it’s a really restless kind of sleep and I wake up EXHAUSTED in the morning.
Naturally, I went to see my doctor, but she refused to give me much of anything because she doesn’t want me to have to depend on it for the rest of my life. (I’m 18, by the way.)
Anyway, she ended up giving me this low dosage of some medication (apparently used sometimes with schizophrenia) and it’s supposed to have a side effect of drowsiness.
Except, it didn’t work for me.
And valium doesn’t work either.
I’m getting really desperate here. I’m getting only a few hours of really terrible sleep a night and my grades are starting to slip, I’m really grouchy, and, mostly, I’m just always SO tired.
What else can I do?
Help!!
I suppose I should add that my younger brother died almost 2 years ago.
I don’t really remember if I was having problems sleeping before that, but a I was going through counseling for a while and when I mentioned my sleeplessness to counselor, she didn’t seem to think it was really related.
Then again, I didn’t really care for her much so who really knows.
Can a Teen Boy take Diazepam (Valium) for Sleeping?
I was wonder if a 15-year-old teenage boy can take one 2mg dosage of Diazepam (substituted for Valium) right before bed to fall asleep?
His sleeping hours are messed up, and school starts Monday! He goes to sleep at 5AM and wakes up in the afternoon. He wants to start waking up at 6AM and sleeping at 10PM.
Also, he has exercise-induced asthma, but he hasn’t used his inhaler in a month and wont be using it for a long time.
Is it unusual for sedatives to keep you awake? Diazepam and sleeping pills.?
I was prescribed Diazepam (Valium) as a muscle relaxant for a back injury I have had for 10 years now. As it can be highly addictable and I don’t want to go down the route of being constantly dependent on it so I only take it when the pain is at it’s worst and I really need to relax the muscle spasms. However, when I take it, I find it keeps me wide awake! It’s now 2am and usually I am asleep by 9:30pm when I have work the next day. It’s not just a coincidence anymore. I have been writing everything down, when I take it, how much sleep i get….. And EVERYTIME I take it, I stay awake all night. Even the dosage is high. I take 5mg. I have even doubled this dosage on one occasion to see if it would make a difference, but nope! I am beginning to think there is something wrong with me that counteracts sedatives, is this possible? Also, about 18 months ago, I was prescribed sleeping tablets for insomnia which I get from time to time… After 3 months of medalling with the dosage I gave up… they just did not send me off to sleep! All they done was chill me out, paralyze my whole body but I was still WIDE AWAKE. It’s not fair There has to be some sort of a medical explanation for this??? Can anyone help please? I don’t want to go to the doctor in case he thinks I’m imagining all this.
Do they ever make you feel like I’m feeling? Maybe sleeping pills and anticonvulsants (what I’m taking) sometimes just turn your brain off?? I’m really confused too and don’t want the doctor to think I’m crazy either.
How I’m feeling kind of sounds somewhat similar… maybe??? :
HELP… I can’t fall asleep and am always tired!?
Hi everyone,
I have a horrible problem with not being able to fall asleep, and always being really tired when I’m awake through the day. This has been going on for about 8 years now but has really peaked now to a point that I’ve had to take unpaid holidays from work (for 6 months now) and I’m still not getting over this!!! I’ve suffered from depression because I’m totally sleep deprived and I’ve seen multiply doctors who haven’t really helped at all… I’ve tried strong sleeping tablets prescribed by the doctor and I ended up taking 3 x the the stronger than normal dosage to sleep, when the doctor found out he freaked out and took them off me saying “I should be dead with that dosage!”
I’ve tried dark rooms, reading books, writing all my thoughts on a piece of paper next to the bed, valium, natural remedies, sleeping tunes, huge amounts of exercise but nothing F*#KEN works!!!!
It’s so bad now i sleep on the lounge most nights because my wife needs to sleep so she can work in the morning and i end up falling asleep to the tv about 3-4am every F*#KEN night! I used to be a tradesman so I had to get up at 5:30am which means I’ve survived on 1.5 to2.5 hours sleep a night for the last 8 years!
No matter how exhausted I am and my body just aches from exhaustion I just can’t fall asleep!
We’ve just found out that we have a baby on the way and I really need to get back to some sorta work, somebody PLEASE HELP ME CAUSE I’M AT MY WITS END!!!!!!
SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE CAUSE THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM
Thanks Carly, I’ve tried 4 different doctors so far…. What do you think about hypnotherapy?

Are you having family or relationship problems? Try soft music with the lights off, if this persists, go back to your doctor.

When you go to bed . . . close your eyes and imagine yourself sleeping. Hypnotise your brain baby.
