Too Much Radiation Can Cause Us Harm

Author: Lisa Ginger

Obviously, we are exposed to many sources of radiation in everyday life and no matter what we do, we cannot avoid them. The radiation that we receive from the earth is very minimal and has been around since the beginning of time (and it will always be around). However, some of our own activities has in fact increased the amount of radiation we are exposed to during our everyday lives.

The detonation of nuclear weapons releases massive amounts of radiation. The debris from a nuclear blast is radioactive and eventually settles to the earth. Nuclear reactors also generate radioactive materials, but the radiation created from reactors is in most cases contained.

X-rays used in medical and dental procedures are definitely contributors to man-made radiation. We all need x-rays from time to time, but it is best not to overdue it. This is why medical professionals leave the room when they x-ray a patient. Nuclear medicine, which may even be used to treat cancer, is another factor adding to the radiation doses people recieve. The use of radioactive materials in research settings can also be a hazard. It is advised that anyone exposed to radiation in their daily work environment take the proper precautions.

Many products for sale to consumers are radioactive. Some of these include T.V.'s, luminous-dial watches, smoke detectors, tobacco products and building materials. In addition, cellphones are a possible cause of radiation. At this time, it is currently unknown how much radiation these sources add to our exposure.

Marijuana: Bong Hits Can Lead To Lung Cancer!

Author: Vas Blagodarskiy

One way to smoke weed is to use a bong. A bong is a smoking paraphernalia that's used to make and inhale marijuana smoke. Many cannabis users prefer a bong over other methods of ingestion - and for good reasons. One, a bong cools the smoke down with water. This reduces irritation on your trachea and lungs while you smoke weed. Two, it hits a lot smoother than a joint or a pipe. Third, it's not as expensive as a vaporizer; it's a low-cost way to smoke. Compare a one-time investment in a nice bong to - for blunt wrappper or rolling paper. There are different kinds of bongs to smoke weed out of; glass ones are usually considered to be the best. They look nice, feel smooth, and are easy to clean. A head shop should sell bongs starting at about and up. Since they all function the same way, some bongs can be a foot tall while others might look a lot like hookahs, at over 3 feet tall. Discrete smokers prefer smaller pot paraphernalia than those who openly tell others of their habitual bud use.

A bong has a few main parts. The first one is the chamber. That's where all of the smoke comes through while you hit it. The stem of the bong goes out the side, towards the bottom, and represents a pipe where you put your bud in. Oftentimes, a bong requires a screen (a metal screen that keeps the marijuana from falling through the pipe). The last part of the bong is the mouthpiece. That's where you put your lips to inhale the smoke. You fill up the chamber of the bong with water. Depending on your experience and taste, you might prefer different liquids. In effect, they all cool down the smoke. Things like ice-cold Koolaid and/or orange juice have been used, and people say they give bud a delicious taste. When you smoke weed out the bong, you inhale it through the stem. Crush it up, and put it in the pipe that goes out the side. Make sure the bottom part of the pipe of your bong is covered with water - only then will the smoke pass through the water. No worries: the THC won't dissolve in water. This process cools down the smoke with air bubbles while you smoke weed. The bong itself is held with your hands as you put your mouth to the mouthpiece.

To take care of your bong and make sure it hits nice every time, make sure to keep it clean. Resin, or left-over buildup that remains in the stem / chamber of the bong, must be cleaned out every once in a while. After every 8-10 times of moderate use, clean your bong with household cleaning solutions. Warm water and soap work well, but might not get all the sticky grime off. Just make sure to rinse it well before using again - no one wants cleaning chemicals in their lungs.

The Health Hazards Associated With Passive Smoking

Author: Brian Welsch

If you wish to smoke cigarettes or cigars despite the associated health risks then that is your own personal choice. What you do not have the right to do is force other people to inhale the smoke from the tobacco products you choose to use, which is why their use in public places is strictly prohibited in many industrialized countries including the United States. Despite an awareness of the reasons behind these public restrictions a shocking number of parents who smoke still choose to light up in the presence of their children without regard for their health. This fact is astounding given that there is scientific research which proves that passive smoking can lead to numerous diseases and is the third leading cause of preventable death in children here in the United States.

Various Diseases And Ailments

Every time you light up a cigar or cigarette in the presence of someone else you are putting them at increased risk of cancer, Crohn's disease and respiratory diseases such as asthma or bronchitis. You are also making it more likely that the people who are passively smoking because of your tobacco product will develop cardiovascular ailments as well as increasing their chances of getting nose, throat and ear infections. Passive smoking is particularly dangerous for children who may not be aware of the dangers they face when they breathe in second hand smoke. Perhaps the most disturbing fact about passive smoking is that it increases the chance of a young child dying from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Unfortunately these warnings about passive smoking are not simply the hysterical paranoia of politically correct people who want to control the world and everything in it. The dangers of passive smoking are real and there is clinical research to prove them. Therefore if you are a smoker it would be erroneous on your behalf to dismiss the hazards of passive smoking and continue to smoke in the presence of your children, relatives or anybody else.

What You Can Do

If you are worried about harming the health of your loved ones through passive smoking then you have two options. The most sensible decision you can make is to stop smoking altogether. This would improve your health as well as that of those you love and would also put more cash in your pocket. If you are not yet ready to give up smoking then the least you can do is go into your back yard or another outdoor place when you smoke. If you really must have a cigarette then be responsible about it. Have a cigar or cigarette only in an environment where other people are not going to have to breathe in your smoke.

How Smoking Affects Everyone

Author: Rachel Yoshida

For many years, anti-smoking campaigns and special advocacy groups have been trying to get people to quit smoking through advertisements and informational sites and brochures. They have protested and ran commercials, but a vast number of people still continue to smoke.

A lot of people have become very addicted to cigarettes because of the nicotine and can't imagine what their life would be like if they couldn't light it up. Smokers who are under the legal age of smoking usually start smoking because it helps them to fit in with the "cool" crowd or they want to rebel.

We all know it smoke is really bad for us and can give us cancer. But what most of us fail to realize is that it can change the way we look. It can change your appearance, making you look older because smoking has been proven to speed up the aging process, and can even make you less sexually attractive. It also can make your teeth turn yellow, giving you the appearance of someone who has not brushed their teeth in a while.

When you get older you will start to see many signs on the face and your body like wrinkles, thinning of the hair, puckering lines around your lip, and prominent lines around your eyes. In more severe cases, you can also lose your teeth due to damage of the gums. This is a huge eye opener, and people really should listen to what these anti-smoking groups are trying to tell them. Do you really what to look older sooner than you are supposed to? Smoking is a very big turn. People don't want to kiss an ash tray or smell the odor that comes off from you clothes. They also don't want to see you damage your life.

Smokers that go on dates with non-smokers usually don't get a second date with them because they are grossed out with their smoking. Research has shown that if only one person smokes around a person that they are around a lot, it can even do more damage to the non-smoker than it can to the smoker?
People care very much about their personal appearance and what impression they give.

Some smokers try to cover their damaged skin by taking medicine or by getting surgery to make them look like they used to or make them look even better. If you stop smoking now you get start to look better, and your body won't age as fast. Not only will your appearance thank you, but your health will also thank you for your wise decision.

Quit Smoking Weed Out Of A Can! Lung Cancer Is Just The Beginning

Author: Vas Blagodarskiy

Smoking weed out of a can is one of the most hazardous ways to ingest cannabis. What we're talking about here are aluminum cans from soda or beer or something like that, used as a home-made pipe sort of a device. It's a dangerous method if used over long periods of time, and should only be your last resort if no other method to smoke weed is available. Unlike a bong, it does not filter out the smoke through a liquid. And, unlike a blunt, there are other chemicals besides plant leaf that you inhale, like aluminum paint and adhesives. These are NOT good for your lungs, which is why smoking marijuana from a can should not be done frequently. Besides, it doesn't even look cool - smoking bud should be a socializing process, after all.

Making a can pipe is very simple, which is why a lot of teenagers are allured to it; it makes smoking weed possible almost anywhere where there's a gas station. Buy your soda, and drink it, or pour it out if you aren't thirsty and want to get high right then and there. You can discard the can opener that you squeeze to push the top of the can through to make your drinking hole. The drinking hole will be your mouth piece. Hold the can horizontally, the mouth piece facing you, and rotate it until the hole is at the top. Make a small indent in the top of the can with your thumb, it should be maybe half an inch deep at most. Using a needle or a thumbtack (the easiest would be a thumbtack), make about 20-30 holes in close proximity to each other inside of that indentation. The end result should look like this:

Throw your bud in the top of the can, where the indent is. The holes serve as the "pipe's" screen, letting the weed rest there, yet you can still inhale it. Light it, and start inhaling after 3-4 seconds of the bud being exposed to open flame. As an optional upgrade, you can make a hole through the other side of the pipe, opposite your mouth piece. This will be your "shotgun" that you put a finger over while hitting the bud, and at the end you'll release it, making all the built-up smoke inside the can exit through the mouth piece and straight into your lungs. Those hits are really harsh, so a shotgun is recommended only for experienced users.

Once again, this should ALWAYS be a last resort method. A vaporizer is much safer. If you smoke weed out of a can frequently, you inhale the paint and other aluminum-related chemicals just as often. Stick to a bong or roll joints, but don't try to smoke from a can a lot. It's quick and convenient, but there's a downside to it, and the health risks associated with smoking out of a can are just not worth it. If you're curious, take a look at the can once you're done smoking. Empty out the residue charcoal-black plant from the indent in the can, and look at it. It'll be stained with black tar and other crap - and that's just on the small outside part of the can. Imagine what's inside the can, and in your lungs.
