Stop Smoking Medications: Do Stop Smoking Medications Have Drawbacks?
Author: Carolina
Many people try many different things to stop smoking. Many people do not like this habit but still smoke, it is like an addiction. If you are one of those and have tried many methods to quit smoking and no single one has worked for you and you are now going for the smoking medication to overcome this problem, then you must also understand what it is before you take the medication. Speaking of today there are three major medications used to help quit smoking. These are NRT (nicotine replacement therapies), Zyban and Chantix.
But are these three stop smoking medications useful?
Well, the answer to this question can be NO! Let us first check the NRT the nicotine replacement therapies. This was the earliest stop smoking therapies. This method was launched in the early 1970s.
NRT:
It is a method to stop smoking using a gum. The concept was simple, the smokers liked nicotine in the smoke or the cigarettes, so the plan was to stop smoking not getting rid of nicotine, and they gave a nicotine alternative a gum instead of a cigarette. So the people used those gums instead of cigarettes. So deliver the nicotine in the non smoke form was the plan. Well, this is not good at all. The reason is that the purpose of stop smoking is to get rid of nicotine that is not good for your health. So this method gave a substitute for the nicotine instead of a cigarette. The purpose is to get rid of nicotine addiction which in this case is not achieved at all. NRT do not solve the problem of nicotine addiction itself, rather it only helps in stop smoking.
Zyban:
The second approach to stop smoking by the use of smoking medication is the use of Zyban. It is good to stop smoking, but people that have high blood pressure must be very careful with it, it also has a name wellbutrin. This is the biggest flaw in this smoking medication.
Chantix:
This is the third medication to stop smoking. It is also sold with the name of Champix in Europe. This might be a good stop smoking medication but people do not sue it due to a lot of side effects of this medication. Many people have abandoned it due to the side effects.

good morning how do i stop smoking without any medication?
i been smoking for 7 yrs and i tryed everything but i can’t stop smoking
I began smoking at the age of 15 and finally quit for good at the age of 57 (a year ago), when I was at a pack a day. Even tho’ all the experts say you have to go cold turkey, I think that just increases the craving. This is how I did it. Everytime I wanted a cigarette, I only smoked half of it. So, I immediately cut my intake in half. After a few weeks of doing that (gives your body time to adjust to less nicotine), I would only take about 4 puffs, put it out and save it for the next craving. After a few weeks of that, I went to 2 puffs, then one puff (where one cigarette could last me a day or two). My body gradually got used to doing without the nicotine and I got to a point where I said, “when this pack is done, I’m not buying anymore”. That was a year ago. Recently, I stayed with my son, who smokes, and took a drag off his cigarette. I didn’t like the taste and it hurt my throat. If I can do it, you can do it, because I loved smoking!!!
Anybody tried medication to stop smoking tobacco?
Results, good bad, will be appreciated.
Also wonder what happens when you stop taking the medications?
How about when you stop the medication;
do the urges to smoke start up like you just stopped?
I personally don’t trust any quit smoking method that deals only with physical nicotine addiction. Drugs especially because they have many side effects and are potentially dangerous also. Honestly, I do not have much experience with quit smoking medication. I have read too many horror stories to even try them. All I know is that I and many others have managed to quit without taking the risk.
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.
Medication is expensive, time consuming and potentially harmful. So much risk when all that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Stop Smoking medication?
has any one tryed the new stop smoking drug called Champix
What is it like? i hear its suppose to be very good?
Champix is excellent. Very few reported side effects, especially compared with other stop smoking medications. It is also highly effective at reducing the amount of cigarettes smoked and eventually allowing the smoker to stop. It is a fairly long process though with a period of reducing smoking then stopping altogether. If you’re motivated it’s a very good option.
And ignore the guy below – it is champix

If you are having these side effects you need to talk to your doctor. There are other ways to quite smoking that are more pleasant !!
