Author: Norma D'souza
Smoking causes threatening evils in the overall health of mankind.
• Erectile dysfunction in men
• Infertility in women
• Respiratory infections that is chronic or serious
• Lung disease such as emphysema
• Coronary disease and heart attack
• Ulcers in the stomach
• Cancer in the different parts of body
• Peripheral vascular disease
• Bladder Cancer
Varenicline, the main ingredient of Chantix is a component that has the capacity to influence the brain receptor cells and give you similar pleasure like nicotine. Chantix competes with the amount of pleasure you get from nicotine, by getting attached to the a4β2 neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors with high intensity. As a result you do not feel like smoking and get over your withdrawal very soon.
Chantix medication has been approved by the FDA Food and Drug Administration and now it is available online to the people who want to quit their smoking habit. Chantix is indicated as an Aid to smoking cessation treatment.
But what is the necessity of Chantix or other FDA approved drugs? The drug authority FDA has granted the approval to Chantix for its effective action in helping people to get rid of smoking addiction. As soon as Chantix is administered to the body, the drug gets mixed with the nicotine receptor cells and induces a pleasure feeling similar to nicotine which further helps the user to escape from the clutches of withdrawal symptoms of nicotine.
To quit smoking, you should be highly strong willed and should have strong determination, otherwise there’s no way to get rid of it. With it, any quit aid you choose will work beautifully. Chantix appears to be a promising new therapy that could help a lot of people kick nicotine addiction, once and for all.
If Chantix appeals to you, discuss it with your doctor and get started! There's no time like the present to quit smoking.

Which has the bigger effect on stomach cancer ?
My dad had cancer of the stomach a couple of years ago. He had his stomach removed and a new one made from intestinal tissue. Had chemo & radio and thankfully is now well again.
However the whole family has gone to war with each other laying blame at each other’s feet and I have had enough.
From Northern Ireland, diet consisted of fried everything and little fibre, fresh fruit & veg.
Which would be the more likely to have caused the cancer ? My dad smoking or his bad diet ?
I’m not taking part in the fighting. I just want to be able to put down the facts and tell them what COULD have caused it and that nobody can pinpoint it for sure, and also that if anyone is to blame then we are all to blame. I’m sick of mt grandmother singling out my mum and blaming her for what’s not her doing.
Like most cancers, the absolute cause of stomach cancer is not known. Three leading risk factors for stomach cancer are:
1) diet
2) smoking
3) chronic infection with Helicobacter pylori.
Dietary factors include:
1) excessive salt intake
2) low intake of fresh fruits and vegetables
3) high intakes of red meat – especially meat cooked at high temperatures.
I hope you find this helpful. Please be careful about placing blame for any cancer. Cancer can take several decades to develop and may be related to experiences/exposures that the patient had decades before the diagnosis.
Best wishes and good luck.
Cancer of the Stomach and Smoking?
How do you get cancer of the stomach from smoking??
How does tobacco contribute to this disease?
Tobacco contains carcinogens aka cancer causing ingredients.

Saliva, containing smoke constituents is swallowed and travels down the esophagus to the stomach. If the cancer occurs at a point just above the stomach (still in the esophagus), it-according to the National Cancer Institute-will take the form of an adenocarcinoma-a type of cancer that effects glandular (secretory) cells that release mucus which normally lines the esophagus. The majority (>90%) of esophageal cancers that occur proximal to the stomach are of the adenocarcinoma type.
Stomach cancer, or gastric cancer can also be adenocarcinomic, in this case they are referred to as gastric adenocarcinomas, and are usually the metastisized product of epithelial cancer (which is further classified as diffuse or intestinal in form). Stomach cancer represents 2% of new cases (~25,000) per year in the United States. Other risk factors include (besides smoking) a high salt diet, excessive alcohol consumption, diet lacking fruits and vegetables, and most notably (and in 70% of cases) infection by the bacterium, H. Pylori. Stomach cancer occurs more in men, and is markedly seen in Korean men. Metastatis is observed in 80-90% of cases with a 5 year survival rate of 75% if diagnosed early. However, if diagnosed late, <30% survive. The death rate is slightly over 12,000 people a year in the United States for people with stomach cancer.
The specifics of carcinogens: a carcinogen is a chemical that alters (mutates) DNA. An Ames test is the usual method to determine whether a chemical is carcinogenic or not. DNA is constantly bombarded by outside stresses effecting the normal structure of the double helix; everything from virus’s to oxidative damage, to changes purposely made by the cellular machinery that governs DNA replication. The basic formula for the state of DNA is (# of mutations minus # of repairs). So, for every insult to DNA there is an attempt to repair this damage. But, as we age there are more insults for the same # of repairs. This leads, over time, to a large manifestation of destruction: imagine your DNA looking like an old, rusty can full of bullet holes. This is part of life for biological life forms and one of the major contributors to aging. Normally, a cell will undergo programmed cell death (apoptosis). But, from time to time the carcinogens will mutate an area known as a proto-oncogene, a sight on DNA that scientists have determined will change the course of events. Each cell type has a different number of protoncogene types. For instance, lung cells have a protoncogene number of 7 spots on the DNA of lung cells. Thus, one or two mutations to the proto-oncogenes will have little effect; but, when there are 4-6 you begin to see adverse events. These ‘events’ begin small, but become largely detrimental in little time. Instead of following orders and committing cell suicide due to massive damage (apoptosis), the hi-jacked cell will instead begin replicating (mitosis) and ignore the usual protocols that inhibit cell growth (normally when two cells are touching they won’t divide). This ignoring of the phenomenon known as density-bound dependence leads to an aggregate of new cells that don’t resemble the normal uniform appearance of the surrounding tissue. The cancer cells continue dividing beyond the confines of the surrounding tissue layers and begin to spread-out first locally, and then throughout the body. This is the description of how a tumor is born.
Is it ok for a Stomach Cancer Patient smoke marijuana to relieve Chemo side affects???
He has had surgery already and had spleen, lymph nodes, and pancreas removed including his whole stomach. They now told us that he might need some light radiation. I’ve read a lot of articles on Chemo patients smoking, drinking(in tea) to relieve the side affects of treatment. Our concern is that since he is already eating so little from having his whole stomach removed that he won’t eat at all or too little once he starts undergoing chemo.
It will likely be a few weeks til he is ready for treatment since he is still recovering from surgery. My question is since he would be smoking it is it safe for him to do that. Would the smoke somehow be bad or dangerous for him??? I heard they offer it in pill form. Is this available everywhere and as effective as smoking it? These are not questions I would want to ask his doctor since it is illegal to purchase marijuana. Maybe it is. Who knows, but any and all of your help is appreciated.
The patient is my father and we live in Chicago.
The problem with illegal marijuana is that no one knows what is in it, where it has been, or whether is harbors somthing that could potentially cause harm by a severe reaction. An immune compromised cancer patient needs to be extremely careful of unknown bacteria or mold that could be lurking in something like weed. That’s why it is unsafe. If he insists on smoking marijuana he must tell his doctor so that if he does have a reaction they will know how to help him. Keep in mind tht There are some herbals that will render chemo treatment less effective so it is extremely important for everyone to be on the same page. Make sure that marijuana does not intefere with his type of chemotherapy. There is a form of medical marijuana in pill form called marinol that is available by perscription. His doctor can prescribe if he asks for it.
how does smoking cause stomach cancer?
Swallowed tars, perhaps. They cause cancer when pained on the skin of laboratory animals, so why not when they contact the GI tract?
