How long after giving up smoking will it take for my lungs to be fully healthy again?
I gave up smoking 3 months ago (and feel GREAT for it after smoking for 15 yrs) am curious to know how long it will be for All the tar to be fully out of my system.
consult a docotr for that, but really depends on how long you’ve been smoking before quitting…
tar will never really get out completely
and by the way, if you still get around with smokers you’re still breathing in a nice deal of tar (passive smoking is still smoking)
Natural Herbs or Cure to Keep Lungs Healthy While Smoking?
I know. I know. This is super hypocritical. My friend *ehem* smokes marijuana 1-4 times a week. He does NOT smoke cigarettes or really anything else. Baking with it is not really possible under the current circumstances. He has looked into a vaporizer but the price is a big turn off and he does not know how effective and fun it is. ha ha. Is there any kind of natural herb or anything he can take to keep his lungs healthy (or healthier than they would be) while he continues to smoke?
If you know of anything books that aren’t full of !sht that would be great too.
Deep breathing excersises – yoga is good for breathing techniques – and strengthening lungs and lung capacity.
A preventer medication is useful if you are an asthmatic. This will stop the lungs from closing in and will keep them mucus free.
Stuff like Eucalyptus or Vick vapor rub opens up airways too.
But really if your “friend” is suffering by smoking, the healthiest thing is to not do it.
or to be very sparingly with it.
To what extent does smoking affect your lungs?
Let’s say that you smoke one cigarette (or joint), the cilia in your lungs will be damaged. How much time does it take for your lungs to repair from this sort of damage (if at all… my guess would be a week or 10 days… but it’s just a guess)? Will exercise help to repair your lungs? Are there any other effects to your lungs beside this? (I do not need an explanation of the dangers of smoking, I’m very well aware) What I suppose I’m most after is what is the recovery time for your lungs after one cigarette, and how the lungs repair themselves from this (if at all, again I’m not sure). Also, what are the best ways to promote healthy lungs and avoid the consequences of smoking.
As much detail as possible would be appreciated, and don’t shy away from being technical, because I would like to understand this the best that I can.

This highly depends on your age, the type of cigarette you’re smoking, and other factors.
If you are between the age of maybe 20-35, your system should be working at its optimal form.
And if you’re smoking a light as apposed to an unfiltered cigarette, then it should harm you LESS.
Also, if you’re smoking a joint (marijuana I’m assuming), then it is actually less harmful for you, unless you roll your own cigarettes with tobacco in it.
Exercising would help the general well being of your body, by circulating your blood flow, which should repair whatever is in need of it faster. Also, smoking actually slows or, in some cases, totally stop your blood flow. Which is the total opposite of exercising.
But, there is a difference between smoking one, “repairing” your body, and then completely quitting and smoking one, repairing, and then smoking another one immediately after. Because your body can’t heal fast enough.
There are some effects to the body that would never leave the body, and smoking, even if all possible repairs are finished, would still build the adverse effects up.
Also, don’t carry the mindset that you can smoke one, heal up and then smoke another and lead the life of a non-smoker. It simply doesn’t work that way.
And the best way to promote healthy lungs is almost the exact same as losing weight: exercise and keep a good diet. Also, try to quit. Or at least smoke less.
If you’re a heavy smoker, do not just drop it because thats close to impossible. Work your way down, to lights, then to patches/gum, then to nothing.
How to keep my lungs as healthy as possible but continue smoking?
First off only answer if you want to help answer the question. Please don’t lecture me.
I know this sounds redundant but I am sure there has to be a way to help keep your lungs in the best shape although I continue to smoke. I don’t smoke cigarettes for one, just marijuana. I use all methods, I love them all. Vaping, bongs, pipe, and the occasional blunt or joint.
I prolly won’t stop smoking ever, I love it. But what are some things I can do to help keep my body in the best shape it can be in as I continue to smoke. I know vaping bud is the healthiest but besides smoking methods what are otherr methods? I usually drink at least 8-12 cups of water a day. I am 5′ 8” and I weigh 140. I am generally healthy, other than an impacted wisdom teeth and I had my tonsils taken out 2 months ago. I am 21 and I don’t drink or excersize that oftetn.
Well, marijuana is certainly less harmful on the lungs than tobacco, I know this from experience. But I would begin exercising-it will help your lungs clear out at a faster rate. The water that you drink helps, I’m sure. Try to incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet, they will boost your immune system.
I recently quit tobacco after 3.5 years of smoking and all this together cleared out my lungs pretty fast.

Bravo! Quitting is a huge accomplishment. Your body will work to purge itself of the toxins that are in all of your organs and cells, not just your lungs. It is normal to experience some “illness” of a respiratory type as your lungs find ways to expectorate. Some people feel disappointed at being sick more after quitting than they did when smoking. Eat healthy, exercise and breath. After about a year you will feel wonderful.
