Smoking And Teenagers

Author: Enrique Wilkinson

Beat the hell out of them to know why they are smoking? and many other questions. You will not be able to rest till you find out the root cause of it and mind you, in no way they will tell you themselves.

The list continues on and on. Some reasons are not mentioned as much. Like the hardened wrinkles that all long term smokers have. Or being denied surgeries because of their pulmonary status. Surgeries that they may need.

If money is a concern, you can ask for samples from the department store performing the consultation and use those samples to find similar shades in less expensive, drugstore brand makeup.

Kids often have the problem of dealing with peer pressure from friends and school mates. While this is certainly nothing new to children and parents alike, you will have to know some different ways.

With movies and television flashing images of underage smoking and drinking, most teenagers are shown only the more enjoyable and funny sides of these habits.

Between 1975 and 1980 the percentage of high school students in the U.S.A. who viewed smoking as a "great risk" increased from 51% to 64%, and surveys in the early 1980s indicate that more than 70% "disapprove" of smoking twenty or more cigarettes per day.

Peer pressure can be a very strong element in your child's life, and it is your responsibility to do everything you can to make sure that your teen knows what to do in these types of situations.

Sadly this is not the case, and the dangers of smoking do little do deter those choosing to pick up for the first time. Even those who have been smoking for decades and perhaps even experiencing poor health.

Getting shocked is a very normal reaction but before overreacting or taking some drastic actions, think with clear mind and try to follow these steps to, at least, make them avoid smoking. You don't know, may be they are just experimenting the taste of it or are trying to copy the style of smoking of some favourite hero.

You may not have to worry about getting your teen through addiction recovery when they are older. Having a drug addiction is a physiological problem, and can take years of medical and psychological intervention to break.

Parents and teachers need to find and implement some revolutionary steps to prevent adolescents against smoking. First we need to understand why teenagers start smoking.

However, they are increasingly abusing prescription drugs and stimulants; particular those used for pain and ADHD. There are generally four stages of teen addiction.

Many of us would like to argue out that these young ones normally go through a lot of stress in form of academic pressure, social influence or even loneliness, and probably the only escape route is alcohol.

The teenage years are one of the most challenging times in any one's life. So many times kids just want to fit in and be accepted. This pressure may make them make bad choices, like smoking!

The phosphorus intake can be high because of the quantity of soft drinks consumed and this can have an adverse effect on the calcium balance in the body

If you have to be 19 y/o in Ontario to buy tobacco, then why are there students at my high school smoking?
students who are 14, 15, 16 are publically smoking. how is this possible if you have to be 19 to buy tobacco?

I live in Ontario and the law is that it is not illegal for a minor to smoke. It is illegal for them to purchase them…which means someone either buys them for them, they use fake id’s or the store operator isn’t checking id…all of which are against the law.

How many of you have gotten by with smoking pot in high school?
as in, how many of you smoked weed periodically during your high school years and still got by with good grades? was it hard? what did you do?

i first had weed when i was 14 – grade 9 [Australia]. I remember having it at 2:30pm right before drama class – i couldn’t even read (it was the first time i had it so it was pretty strong. i even quit the group i was in and went to a new one because for some reason i realised how ***** dumb they were.). I got home and ate 8 pieces of raisen bread/fruit toast and pretty much just sat in front of the pc until it wore off playing games. The next couple of days i felt weird because it was still in my system and i wasn’t used to it; especially when the sun came out or i did exercise. If you are going to do weed at school my suggestion would be don’t do it at all, or have enough of it so it doesn’t affect you when you’re not actually smoking. More importantly, if you are going to do it try and do it on the weekends with friends, or in the holidays. I wouldn’t suggest having it at parties either as i’ve seen stoned people get beaten up purely for being stoned. haha [oh wait, that's not funny]

After the first time i had it i did it all the time – even at school, on the oval – sometimes ate muffins and it would activate in maths – always made it far more enjoyable. Just limit your use at school.

As far as it affecting your grades that is completely up to you and your motivation. I got straight A’s in my two final years, went to university and got my degree and now i’m running my own business and i’m 23. It effects everyone differently. My friend who introduced me to (girl believe it or not) was a goth in year 9 and 10 and was failing subjects. Even while they continued to smoke weed by the time they were 15, in year 10 they cut off their long black goth hair and went natural, got a tan, took out the piercings and then also got straight A’s in the final years.

To be honest i don’t think it has a big impact on grades at all. However if you do it sparingly sometimes i find it can be quite motivating but it depends on why you do smoke it in the first place.

Personally, i would be more worried about the health effects it has.

it’s far worse than cigarettes in terms of cancer/emphysema but it’s like any drug, including alcohol as there are always pros and cons.

But, why do it often and ruin the spontaneity of smoking it with friends? That way you can still enjoy it every time, the health effects are not as bad and it’s not going to ruin your life – just don’t be a habitual marijuana smoker or you can say goodbye to your memory and response time. I’m saying that from experience.

What are the smoking policies in your high school?
It’s been a few years since I’ve graduated and was just wondering what the smoking policies at your school our? If you are 18 and smoke what are the punishments as opposed to someone who is not of legal age to smoke? I think if you are 18, even though smoking is bad, you should be able to smoke at school, since I know there are teachers out there who do smoke.

High School teens smoking and drinking around me?
I’m in high school and A LOT of my friends smoke and drink. I know it’s bad for you and I, so I try not to really get involved. I was just wondering what your views are about this. I don’t really care what other people think, but I’m interested in knowing your opinion, am I a pussy? Do you think I’m smart for doing that?
