Ways To Quit Smoking Today
Author: Francies Klein
The what? Let's take something easier - the dorsal striatum, or locus coeruleus. Still gobbledygook? Not to medical specialists.
If you think quitting smoking is difficult, think of it as a chemical reaction to certain stimuli, that's all. The nucleus accumbens is the name given to part of your brain's pleasure centre where dopamine is produced. Dopamine creates that feel-good mood - simple as that.
Here's a story of a no-good nicotine dragon...
He's hiding in the tobacco. Your cigarette is lit. Fire! nicotine dragon comes alive and hitches on to the tiny particles of tar in the inhaled smoke. Down and around he goes, sucked into your airways, then effortlessly slithers into your bloodstream and zooms to your brain about 7 seconds later. Nicotine dragon gets off at the nucleus accumbens and hails a passing receptor cell and hops aboard, flicks a switch to let out happy little neurotransmitters, particularly dopamines. These molecules rush around for about 30 minutes or so, having a bit of a party and making you feel warm and fuzzy, then they get bored and go back to sleep, leaving you with the bill. So then you buy another round because you liked that party...
Some of your other party pals had a ho hum sort of time, and some an even better time. Their nucleus accumbens didn't have any or many receptor cells to attract any nicotine dragons, or on the other hand, they sent their dragons to latch on to receptors in their dorsal striatum, which made them feel good in other ways.
Your hippocampus will also have been active. That's your memory center, and it works hard to remind you of all the agreeable memories associated with smoking. And when quitting smoking, your locus coeruleus, an alarm centre of the brain, notices a shortage of its favorite drug and sets off, well, an alarm, chemically, to go and get a fix quick smart.
Remember the dorsal striatum? It's part of the brain region associated with motivation. This means it produces neurotransmitters such as dopamine in response to the emotional triggers of smoking, rather than the nicotine trigger. So your other party buddies - and maybe you too - tried to get their kicks by subconscious associations with smoking and... maybe being with friends, having a break, soothing angry feelings, loneliness, boredom... or even just having a coffee. These ingrained habits are what make you a smoker in the psychological sense.
This party life is weary after a while. Up and down, high and low, lots of time, energy and money to go where... up and down again - a prisoner.
What to do? You can't think of anything worse than a day without smoking. Apart from two days without smoking. You'll just have to make you own party arrangements when quitting smoking, that's all.
Start off with those little dopamines. Make them yourself by exercising. It can sometimes take a few days of getting stuck into exercise before the brain clicks in and revs up those little critters, and from then on it's high, high all the way. You've heard of "runners high," and now you can have it too, with any exercise from cycling to walking.
Meditation or some deep reflective time is another proven way to wake up those brain pleasure centers. There again it can take a bit of practice to go really deeply "into yourself," but it's such a fantastic feeling - thanks to dopamine and those other neurotransmitters your brain produces.
Laughing, love, friendship, peace, chocolate, fun, being creative, excitement, giving and sharing will all give your nucleus accumbens or dorsal striatum a buzz. You've just forgotten or neglected how good life can make you feel.
Fill up your previous smoking time with other interests, walk by the sea, go to a new night class. Occupy your hands with healthy snacks or a craft, stress toy, puzzles and so on. Successfully quitting smoking permanently, simply means putting new habits and pleasurable memories into your brain.
Concentrate and keep shifting your focus on the new pleasures of quitting smoking and how good it feels and how much better your future is, rather than on any temporary feelings your old smoking habit gave you. After a few weeks your new pleasurable feelings will now be programmed into your sub-conscious and you will safely think and act as a non-smoker.
You're not going to let a few odd sounding brain parts get the better of you are you?

Can I have help with Dragon myths/names?
Okay, I’m working on a book. It’s starting to become apparent that there is going to have some serious dragon involvement, but I don’t know many dragon myths and I don’t want to mess it up. I looked at a bunch of stuff on the internet and it seemed like dragons are pretty much a free for all, but I’d like to run some things by people and get feedback. Here goes:
-What are some dragon scale powers? This isn’t important yet, but my main character’s goal in this book is to find a scale, which she will later use in some difficult situation.
-The scale she is finding is black.
-There are fake little dragons that aren’t magic, but can breathe smoke. They look very fierce, but are tiny.
-There are domesticated dragons that are stupid and have lost some magical powers.
-There are nice dragons who are very intelligent and befriend the main character. They live on an island, but breathe fire. Their scales have no power, but they have minimal power in other areas. I believe they will have very long lives, but they will not be immortal. They look like the stereotypical chubby roundish european dragon, and they are blue.
-the really magic dragons were immortal except through battle, but they went extinct many centuries ago.
Do these totally go against existing dragon lore? If so, how can I improve? Also, any name suggestions for breed of the dragons described above (if breeds exist) or names for the nice dragons would be welcomed. Please remember not to give names of dragons already mentioned in books, perhaps just a dragony sounding person name. Thanks, I know it’s a lot.
just one suggestion, the scale is usually used as a trophy for killing the dragon. Another idea would be to replace the scale with a talon of the dragons and have to have it crafted into a peice of jewlery. I did a book somewhat similar to this last year for my English class. I used names that alreeady existed in myths because my book was based off of myths in the first place.

Once upon a time long time ago deep, deep in the forest was a kingdom named ‘Fairy’. In the kigndom there lived a king, queen, a prince and a princess and lots of happy folks. One day the prince took off and was out in the forest hunting dragonflies. He becomes so busy playing, that it grew dark before he realizes. He flies home to his beautiful princess as fast as he can, When he is near his town he is shocked to find everyone in his town in a deep sleep. He gets worried about his love and hurries to the castle. But he is even more shocked when he sees his whole castle surrounded with thick black flog. He hurries up the stairs where he sees his love on the bed in a deep sleep with a Black Fairy sitting next to her. He takes out his sword and runs towards her to fight her but she warned him that if he kills her the whole kingdom and his love will die as well. Suddenly in a black puff of smoke, the Black Fairy appears in front of him, she tells him that to awaken his people and his love he must travel up, far to the north to get the Celestial Flute from the Dragon’s cave. Playing the flute will only awaken his people but in order to awake his love he must kiss her before sunset. But if he fails, he must marry the Black Fairy in order to become Queen and the whole kingdom as wel as his love will remain in a deep sleep forever and ever.
The Prince heads hurriedly towards the door of the castle and hops on his horse. The prince starts his long and dangerous journey towards the dragons cave in hopes to save his kingdom. On his way to the cave he happens to fight a troll. He manages to escape the troll and there he is, standing in front of the dragon’s cave. The dragon was asleep, he tried to sneak in and find the Celestial Flute. In he goes, and hears a horrible roar, he turns around and sees the horrible creature standing right in front of his eyes. He takes out his sword and fights him back. The dragon is very strong and blows out fire which makes it harder for the prince to fight back. There he battles the dragon. The Black Fairy, watching him in her magic scurrying pool, sees him vanquish the dragon and decides to do the job herself, since the dragon failed. The prince finally manages to get the flute and play it when suddenly a big bird approaches and snatches the flute away. He takes out his arrows and tries to hit the bird but the bird was fast and flew away. The prince hopped on his horse following the bird. The bird gets stuck by a big tree and the Prince hit his arrow at once, it hit’s the birds heart. Abruptly the bird turns into black ashes and the Celestial Flute starts falling down. The prince catches the flute at once and journeys back to his kingdom. On his way back, she traps him in a hedge maze of big thick thorns, and invested with giant spiders.
He manages to escape, and return home. He plays the flute and kisses his love just before sunset. His love awakens and so does the whole kingdom. They all then capture the Black Fairy and toss her into her spider-infested hedge maze. With the Black Fairy gone, they live happily ever after and the Fairy prince becomes a father of a beautiful princess. THE END! J

ever heard of TV show Gigglesnort Hotel?
A smoke blowing dragon worked in the bolier room. A talking mess of clay could be shaped into different things. There was an adult with a black mustache who was supposed to be like the teacher,
and there were two puppets who were sort of thinly disguised Bert and Ernie lookalikes.
chicago TV? I loved
this show as a child.
Yes, I believe the man was named B. J… I remember a show called B J and Dirty Dragon show, then later it was re-named The Gigglesnort Hotel… the mound of talking clay was Blob and I do remember a woman and man puppet, but cant recall who they were or names….
