How Smoking Affects Everyone

Author: Rachel Yoshida

For many years, anti-smoking campaigns and special advocacy groups have been trying to get people to quit smoking through advertisements and informational sites and brochures. They have protested and ran commercials, but a vast number of people still continue to smoke.

A lot of people have become very addicted to cigarettes because of the nicotine and can't imagine what their life would be like if they couldn't light it up. Smokers who are under the legal age of smoking usually start smoking because it helps them to fit in with the "cool" crowd or they want to rebel.

We all know it smoke is really bad for us and can give us cancer. But what most of us fail to realize is that it can change the way we look. It can change your appearance, making you look older because smoking has been proven to speed up the aging process, and can even make you less sexually attractive. It also can make your teeth turn yellow, giving you the appearance of someone who has not brushed their teeth in a while.

When you get older you will start to see many signs on the face and your body like wrinkles, thinning of the hair, puckering lines around your lip, and prominent lines around your eyes. In more severe cases, you can also lose your teeth due to damage of the gums. This is a huge eye opener, and people really should listen to what these anti-smoking groups are trying to tell them. Do you really what to look older sooner than you are supposed to? Smoking is a very big turn. People don't want to kiss an ash tray or smell the odor that comes off from you clothes. They also don't want to see you damage your life.

Smokers that go on dates with non-smokers usually don't get a second date with them because they are grossed out with their smoking. Research has shown that if only one person smokes around a person that they are around a lot, it can even do more damage to the non-smoker than it can to the smoker?
People care very much about their personal appearance and what impression they give.

Some smokers try to cover their damaged skin by taking medicine or by getting surgery to make them look like they used to or make them look even better. If you stop smoking now you get start to look better, and your body won't age as fast. Not only will your appearance thank you, but your health will also thank you for your wise decision.

    Does smoking weed affect appearance?
    I DO NOT smoke weed, but I know a lot of people that do. The boys I know that smoke get most of the girls; and the girls that smoke look HOT. Is there a connection between weed and outer appearance? Or is it just a coincidence?

    (Guys) Be Honest!: what would you prefer great personality or smoking hot appearance?
    you cant say both! the great personality comes with the not so great (yuck) appearance….
    But the smoking hot appearance comes with the not so hot (ew) attitude

    What woud you prefer??

      I like personality , it can make a so- so appearance beautiful, but a smoking hot beautiful to look at girl can be made to appear very ugly because of a bad personality. The personality will turn me on quicker then the looks will. But that’s just me, I guess.

      As soon as you stop smoking, your body will begin to repair itself. While your body is working to get rid of the nicotine, you may experience some or all of the effects of nicotine withdrawal. They include

      * changes in mood
      * changes in sleeping patterns
      * changes in eating habits
      * craving for nicotine

      Other symptoms may include

      * itchy hands or feet
      * constipation, gas or stomach pains
      * coughing or dry mouth
      * dizziness or headaches

      Each smoker is different and not everyone experiences the same number and intensity of withdrawal symptoms. Some people don’t have any withdrawal symptoms. Others have symptoms that can range from mildly uncomfortable to very uncomfortable.
      How long do withdrawal symptoms last?

      Withdrawal symptoms are temporary. They peak within one to two days after you quit and usually only last about a week (although they can last up to four weeks). If you feel you have a strong physical addiction to nicotine, talk to your doctor. Your doctor may recommend that you use a nicotine replacement therapy or a smoking cessation pill to help ease your withdrawal symptoms.

      The good news is that withdrawal symptoms are actually signs that your body is on its way to recovering from the effects of nicotine. As soon as you quit, good things start to happen to your body.

      LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE Twenty minutes after quitting, your blood pressure drops to your pre-cigarette level.

      MORE OXYGEN Eight hours after quitting, the carbon monoxide in your blood drops, and the oxygen level in your blood increases to a normal level.

      HEALTHIER HEART Within 24 hours after quitting, your chance of having a heart attack decreases.

      WARMER FEET AND HANDS Within two weeks to three months of quitting, your blood circulation improves. In the weeks and months to come, your body will continue to recover. In the meantime, here are some tips to help you cope with nicotine withdrawal symptoms.

      CHANGES IN MOOD You may experience irritability, nervousness, anxiety, restlessness, or feeling down or depressed. When you reduce your nicotine level by quitting smoking, you may experience mood changes while your brain adjusts to being nicotine-free.

      Well this is the perfect question for me to answer.I’m 20 years old as well and I quit smoking
      18 months ago!!! I’m so proud of myself! and I have never felt better I look great too!.Before I quit
      I smoked for about 4 or 5 years approx.The younger you are the easier it is for you body to
      repair itself.So you are much better off quiting now at 20 then at 40..I quit when I was still 18.
      After the first few months off being smoke free my skin looked much better my complexion
      just looked much healthier my boyfriend tells me that I look much better know at 20 then I did
      when he meet me at 18 and I smoked.So yes it will change your appearance in your face
      and in your body you will feel and look alot better..being healthy is sexy!
