Health cost
The single greatest cause of preventable illnesses and early death is caused by tobacco consumption or better known as smoking. Cancer Research UK estimates that 114,000 people die each year from smoking related diseases including cancer. Smokers find it extremely difficult to give up smoking due to the highly addictive nature of nicotine in cigarettes.
What a waste of money
The cost of a single person smoking twenty cigarettes a day is £2,135 per year and this takes no account of the income tax and the national insurance you paid the government from your wages. If these taxes were included then a twenty a day single persons smoking habit would cost you £2,669 per year. That’s the cost of a family holiday abroad including spending money. A couple who some twenty cigarettes a day would spend £5,338 per year including tax deductions from their wages. That’s £102.66 per week for a couple and £51.33 for a single smoker. What a waste of money!

Testimonial
I stopped back over eighteen months ago when my wife and I decided that thirty years was long enough and we decided to stop smoking together. We have provided each other with support and encouragement. Before this momentous decision we had tried and failed but this time it was different we wanted to give up for health and financial reasons. We wanted to save money and hopefully live longer and healthier lives. Our three children wanted us to stop as well because they smelt of our smoke.
We went to a Tesco Pharmacy store and asked to see their NHS smokefree representative. The first thing they did was ask us some health questions then they asked us to blow into a machine that recorded the carbon dioxide in our lungs. We were given a week’s course of Nicotine replacement patches to help us resist smoking. It was hard to pack in but we preserved and after six weeks we had stopped.
Eighteen months later neither of us has smoked a single cigarette and yes I could smoke a cigarette everyday but I know how hard it was and the willpower it took to give them up.
The best part of giving up smoking was the money we were saving although I have to say I have never seen the money we are saving. We both feel healthier and our children don’t smell like an old ashtray. If I can give it up then anyone can.

Is there any online support for quitting smoking?
I’m having a really bad time right now quitting smoking. I honestly feel like I’m dying. I’m so ill right now,and I’m up by myself. Does anyone know of any online chat that’s free to talk to at night?
I quit two years ago. It took two weeks of cold turkey misery and wanting to kill someone to get over the physical addiction. The mental urge slowly decreases, but never fully goes away. After about six months I was feeling so much better. I could breathe, exercise, taste food again, smell things. Night and day. Hang in there. It will get easier and easier every day, just hang in there. Soon you’ll be so controlled, free and happy, it will blow your mind. The smell of cigarettes now if completely sickening to me, and I was a pack a day guy. Just commit to the long hard haul, and give it time. You can do it.
Does Yahoo no longer have Chat rooms?
I’m looking for a ‘quit smoking’ support chat room but I can’t find Yahoo’s chat rooms. Did they eliminate them?
If so, any other recommendations?
This is a list of Yahoo chatrooms:
http://dir.yahoo.com/Computers_and_Internet/Internet/World_Wide_Web/Chat/Chat_Rooms/
How to look for regional chatrooms:
go to the messenger menu near the top, select Yahoo! chat and join a room -> click “regional” to go to different countries. Click on your country to get state or city chat rooms. For more instructions go to: http://freechatrooms.blogspot.com/2008/03/free-local-chat-rooms-at-yahoo.html

Is there any good online giving up smoking sites?
I have been smoking for 13 years and its time to give up. Its making me sick. Is there any good sites that have a online support (eg chat rooms, forums)!
5 years ago i found a site that had all of the above and a Quit calculator that told you how much money you have saved and how much longer you will live but i cant find it any more!!?
Can anyone help?
Stopping smoking after 13 years is hard. At that point it’s more than just a physical habit. It’s ingrained in your mind too. People that use hypnosis to help them stop smoking have 10x the chance of actually quitting smoking for good. But there’s a lot of scams out there that promote pseudo hypnosis/psychology without even using a real doctor to create the program.
I’ve just started a website to help people quit smoking. We have read over all the literature on the top programs on the market and read independent reviews on them to narrow down the top programs. There’s no point in wasting your time OR your money.
One of the top programs we found is called Akualani. It’s a hypnosis program and was actually developed by doctors and therapists.
Here’s a quick link to them if you want to check it out:

I invite you to review our site for any other information that might be helpful. I understand how hard it is and I applaud you for wanting to stop smoking. Good luck to you!
