Quit Smoking Cold Turkey - The Side Effects of giving up cigarettes

Author: David Lulz

Most people who smoke know it’s dangerous and want to quit smoking. It’s all over the media, everyone is talking about how bad cigarettes are for your health, and it is even on the cigarette packs. Big warnings telling you the hazards of smoking and why you should quit smoking. Smoking is becoming a very inconvenient habit, most bars and restaurants are banning cigarettes worldwide, leaving smokers with no other option but to go outside and smoke in the cold.

But what is it that keeps normal, sane adults from clinging on to a habit that, not only is unpopular and somewhat of a struggle to maintain, but could potentially kill them?

The answer is; smoking contains nicotine, which is addictive, and over time your body is given the illusion that nicotine is a necessity, and when you leave your cigarettes for too long, the body begins to send signals that something is amiss and it needs a new supply of nicotine. The longer you continue to smoke, the stronger this addiction becomes, and so does the side effects of giving up smoking.

The side effects of giving up cigarettes can be many, as over time, nicotine has become a necessity for your body, and the lack of it will trigger cravings and withdrawal symptoms. These can be both mental and physical.

The most common are the mental side effects, which include stress, irritation, or perhaps a feeling of something is missing. You see, there are many situations which can trigger these cravings; usually you just light up a cigarette and the negativity fades. But if you’re trying to quit, you can’t light up a cigarette, and the symptoms grow stronger. Making you stressed, you lose focus, and you are possibly a very grumpy person to be around.

So how can we go about avoiding these symptoms? Well, the answer is simple.

Use hypnosis to quit smoking. It is a proven method that has works time after time. By using hypnosis methods like Neuro Linguistic Programming, you can easily avoid these cravings. It works pretty easy; most of the cravings are, as we discussed earlier in the article, inside your head. And with hypnosis, you can access your subconscious mind, and tell yourself to ignore these cravings. Thus eliminating the cravings completely.

Has anyone used the patch to quit smoking?
I have just begun wearing it and so far so good, but I am wondering if anyone was successful with it and if you experienced any problems with side effects etc… I work out and it falls off when I sweat any suggestions besides medical tape to keep it on? I use medical tape but that comes off too.

My brother used the patch and it worked for a while but he started smoking again. What has worked best for him and other smokers I know is the drug Chasix. It has worked for even the hard core smokers. They’re all raving about it.

i have heard of patch that would help to quit smoking is it true and will it have any side-effects?
I have beeing smoking for years and now when i really needs to quit i cannot. i heard about some patch or something like that that will help me to cut it down. if some one has used it or you know that how it works please answer to me. and i would also like to know if it has any side effects.

Yes, there are nicotine patches available to help you quit smoking. They have patches with different levels of nicotine in them for different types of smokers (heavy, medium, or light smoker). You can also use the different patches to help wean yourself from the nicotine.

I have used them personally and find that they do work pretty well. However, as with any other method, you must have the will to really quit smoking. Side effects with the patches can be a problem for some people, especially people who still smoke while wearing the patch. Some people notice mild dizziness a bit after putting on the patch. This sometimes passes. If you continue to be dizzy or nauseous, try a lower dose patch. They can also cause heart palpitations, especially if you smoke while wearing them.

If used properly, the patches are an excellent method of quitting the smokes.

Does anyone know if there are any side effects for taking hoodia pills while wearing a patch to quit smoking?

    • Anonymous says:

yea hoodia isn’t a stimulant so therefore there is nothing in it that will counteract with taking the patch. If you feel like you don’t want to take the pills anymore because you notice something irregular, then stop. But it can’t harm you. Hoodia is natural and probably the safest dietary supplement out there. Is it effective, that I cannot tell you.

I’m on the nicotine patch to quit smoking but i occasionally smoke Hookah. Is that safe to do?
I am really disgusted and can not wait until i can look back and say that I’ve been cigarette free! I do hang out at hookah bars and although smoking cigarettes are not allowed inside it is a hookah bar and i do smoke hookah (flavored tobacco) will this give me any side effects because I’m on the nicotine patch?

    • Anonymous says:

Yes it is safe to do…shisha contains minimal traces of nicotine and tar making it impossible to “overdose”. Being around cigarettes might make you want to start up again, but smoking hookah shouldn’t have any effect that will make you want to start smoking cigarettes again.

Does wearing a “quit smoking” patch while on birth control cause blood clots?
I know when using birth control you are not supposed to smoke because of the horrible side effects including blood clots. I am trying to quit smoking and was wondering if wearing a patch such as Nicoderm CQ would have the same side effects as if I were to actually smoke. I am currently on Loestrin FE and am worried of running the same risks as an actual smoker.
