Quit Smoking Support Options
Author: Ed Philips
There are many quit smoking support groups to choose from. There are local programs, many of them run by non-profit organizations and most of them at no cost, that meet locally or online to offer quit smoking support before, during, and after you give up the habit. Some prescription drugs also offer quit smoking support by telephone or online as part of their program. There are also forums and chat rooms online that are quit smoking support groups.
Finding the right quit smoking support group for you will take a little research. But first you need to ask yourself what you need and hope to gain from any quit smoking support group. Do you need specific information, or do you just want to share your feelings? Do you want a quit smoking support group that passively accepts any setbacks you might have, or one that will challenge you to do better? Or do you want to hear tips and suggestions from members of your quit smoking support group and offer ideas of your own?
Once you have determined what you expect a quit smoking support program to give you, locate one that is tailored to your needs. You will likely find several, so you will then need to determine which is the most convenient or most economical, if cost is an issue. If the quit smoking support group meets in person, try to go a couple of times just to see how you fit with the other members.
It may not be necessary for you to join a quit smoking support group at all. Your friends and family members may offer all of the quit smoking support you need. Most of the time, you will find that those who care about you will be delighted and more than willing to offer all the quit smoking support they can muster. Bring them into your plan and let them know exactly what type of quit smoking support you need from them. Perhaps you just want an occasional pat on the back for your efforts. Or maybe you want them to hide your cigarettes while you are leading up to your quit date, doling them out at specific times. Perhaps you want them to stop smoking with you. The important thing is that they understand what quit smoking support you want, so there are no hurt feelings or spats if the wrong type of support is offered.
If you and your doctor decide that you have no risk factors, such as depression or mental illness, for prescription drugs, be sure and utilize the quit smoking support program included with the plan. They provide a specific schedule and have many tips on how to give up smoking. Their quit smoking support systems include toll free numbers you can call when you need, literature for you to read, and much more.
Do not try to go it alone if you do not have to. There are many quit smoking support programs out there, and often just a little boost is all it takes to turn a smoker into an ex-smoker.Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/health-articles/quit-smoking-support-options-1949190.html

help quit smoking?
Does anyone know of an organization that sends out free patches to help you quit smoking. My boyfriend smokes, and is trying to quit, and we don’t have the money to pay 50 for the patches. My brotehr went through the same thing, and got it free, but he’s in Iraq and I can’t really contact him.
I don’t know an organisation that will give away patches…….sorry but I do heard that the Quit helpline may help. Or try nicobate.
is there an organization in oklahoma that offers free nicotine gum and patches to help quit smoking?
is there an organization in okla that offers free nicotine gum and patches to help with my trying to stop smoking?
Try going to your county health department.
Is there any organisations out there for people who don’t want to quit smoking ?
I don’t smoke, but I know a lovely man who is 86 who is adament that he will not quit as he says “I smoked since I was 13 and im not quitting”.
Just wondered if there are any groups out there that have his view of smoking ?
I don’t know the name of the group, but they have daily meetings down at the bar.
What’s the organization for helping druggy?
Alcoholics anonymous is for drinking problem, narcotics anonymous is for quitting smoking, what about the organization for helping people to quit drug addiction? Cheers!
somebody just corrected me that “Narcotics anonymous” is for drug but not for smoking.Cheers!
To lj,thanks for your answer, but i’m not a TOOL,just never had that problem with drugs,k? cheers!
Actually, NA…Narcotics Anonymous is a 12-step meeting/program to help people who are on drugs or all sorts…but you can also look towards CA which is Cocaine Anonymous; CMA which is Crystal Meth Anonymous or AA which as you already know is Alcoholics Anonymous. You can go to AA even if you have a drug problem or NA if you have a drinking problem. Their motto is ‘Keep Coming Back’…these meetings are great because they only want you to have the DESIRE to stop using/drinking. They don’t require total abstinence (freedom from chemical use) and they are very supportive. If you or someone you know has a problem the best thing to do is to have a formal evaluation to see if they need to have more support or treatment options that a traditional 12-step meeting will provide. If treatment is not what you’re looking for try a meeting and see if it does the trick. From my experience of referring patients to meetings, I have found that older adults prefer AA and the younger crowds like more of the NA, CA and CMA meetings. There are lots of reasons for this. If you want more information…please feel free to email me. Hope this helps and good luck to you!
Buying cigarettes for someone else even though i’m against smoking?
I’m going overseas, and a family member asked me to buy her some cigarettes from duty free on the way back. I said I would, but now I think about it I don’t feel too good about doing that. I have asthma so hate it when people smoke near me, and also I work for an anti-smoking organisation. I know she won’t smoke them around me, but I feel like I’m being a hypocrite if i buy them, when I spend all day at work trying to get people to QUIT smoking! (and also am personally against it).
I just want to know if you guys would buy something for someone else if you personally didn’t agree with it. Is it ok to get cigarettes as a gift in this circumstance? Sorry it’s long-winded, but please give me your suggestions! Thanks
Yes I would,it’s only cigarettes and it is a family member that asked you,not someone you really don’t know. It’s a favor.
