Steps to Quit Smoking - Discover the Gradual Way to Stop

Author: Ron King

Social attitudes towards smoking have altered dramatically in the past few years. All smokers are well aware of these and are continuously researching easy ways to stop smoking--just like you! Smokers are cutting back little by little to become a lonely minority, and they know that their habit is harming more people than merely themselves--thanks to passive smoke. Virtually everyone desires an easy way to stop smoking, but it’s a rare thing to find someone with a strong enough will to quit smoking in just 1 stroke, and not slowly and steadily.

Abiding by a list of potent but successful practices to abolish the habit helps. Remember the significant ones, or write down all of them! They can be taped on the facing wall of your kitchen or put in  the drawer of your work station at the office or home. The crucial matter for all is to have patience--plenty of it. Attitude acts as productive anchor for any habit to be shed--a shift in attitude and viewpoint. You will now be amazed to see so many easy ways to stop smoking.

Throw away all cigarettes that are now accessible to you, all lighters, match boxes and ashtrays.

Drink plenty of water, fruit juices, herbal teas or any other drink that is not effervescent.

Keep yourself engaged most of the time--occupy yourself in watching television or a movie regularly or completing house chores.

Talk to friends or colleagues more frequently, take on part-time work if unemployed or enroll in voluntary work, or join a church, etc.

Play with something like a pencil or a pen to keep hands engrossed.

Eat several small meals.

If, in spite of  the above suggestions, the urge to smoke hits, take deep breaths and hold for a couple of seconds. In fact,  pranayama (a particular posture of yoga) helps smokers to discover a gentle way to stop smoking. After loyally following these acts, you will begin to feel and appear better every day and be astonished how easy it was to do something that you thought was insurmountable. Yes, there is an easy way to stop smoking- it begins by taking it easy.

i want to quit smoking and i have 3 kids please help!?
My house-hold is very stessful and i’ve already tried to quit once. After about 2 weeks (on the patch) I became so irritable, I began to yell at my kids for no good reason and they are only 2,3, and 4. they aren’t old enough to understand that it’s not their fault that I am mad. Also, my fiance works 2nd shift so she spends all morning with the 2yr. old while the 3 and 4yr. are in school. and when they come home mommy is at work until after they go to bed. She also smokes and refuses to quit unless i do it first! I want to quit so bad but, i don’t want to take it out on the kids but I don’t know what to do. Please help! I’ve been smoking for 10yrs. and never around the kids (only in the addition or outside, while away from the kids ofcourse)

I can relate, I quit 5 years ago after smoking for 30 yrs. I used the gum, mostly. I just told my stupid head into believing that IT WOULD WORK, and it has. I still chew the gum for special things, otherwise I’d smoke. I’d go back in a hearbeat if it wasn’t so bad for me. As far as berating yourself about the kids, I’ve been there too. If it’s severe enough, ask your doc for a script of welbrutin, it may help, it helped mellow a friend of mine. Set a date, and check the Lung Associations web site, they probably have more help. When you’re ready, you’ll do it. That’s how I felt, either I’d do it or die an early death. Everyone in my family dies of heart attacks, so figured I couldn’t be stupid anymore, you know, like time to grow up!!!!!

    Quit smoking?
I’ve been trying to quit smoking now for a week… and today is the first day I haven’t had a craving!!

Just a personal victory.. sorry to bore you :)

Oh and so I don’t get reported…… how important are the presidential candidates ideas for keeping kids from smoking?

what party do you belong to?
Chantex is what I’m taking!! The cravings just go away!! It’s amazing!
Yea, it doesn’t matter that much to me how candidates treat this issue, I just assumed that somebody would surely report me if I didn’t ask some politicalish question!

How can I best encourage my kids as they try to quit smoking?
My daughter and son-in-law have a new baby, and they are very careful not to smoke in the house or around her. But they have decided to quit cold-turkey and I am so proud of them! How can I help without bugging them?

Just be supportive :) Don’t call every day, but every other or every few days or so. When they say they’ve gone a whole day without a smoke, encourage them. If one of them has a little stumble and gives in to a craving, don’t admonish…just say you know it must be so hard and tell them to keep trying.

At this point, going on about the health risks of smoking are just going to be annoying. They know it and have heard it all already, or they wouldn’t bother trying to quit. And quitting can make a person grumpy, so you don’t want to make it harder on them.

If they’re having a hard day or the baby’s really fussy and it’s wearing them down, and if you live near by, offer to baby sit and give them an evening or afternoon off to relax.

You’re awesome for caring so much, and I hope it works out for them! And congratulations on being a new grandparent!

How to quit smoking for kids?
im not the one smoking but my friend smokes and he said hes going to quit but he still does how do i know wat to do for him to quit smoking

so i am assuming that he has to be stealing them in order to get them if he is a kid and cant buy them himself. i dont think he realizes that at his age he doesn’t know what “addicted” is. I started when I was a teenager and it would have been so easy to quit then and now i am in my 20′s and its harder than ever. When your young its not about addiction but about habit. He does it to feel accepted, cool, whilest being social with a crowd, or even just out of habit where he just wants something in his hands to hold on to. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. If anything, tell his parents. He may be pissed about it (or dont let them know yout told) but he wont regret it later.

What are some fun activities for kids to help their parents quit smoking?
Ok well my parents are smokers and in health we are learning about smoking. I have a little sister and I am wanting to help my parents quit smoking. So what are some activities that kids can use to help their parents quit smoking. So please help me and Thank you very much.

There’s nothing you can do about them smoking. You can voice your concerns but that doesn’t mean they will quit. They have to make up their minds to do it themselves. Go ahead and voice your concerns, though.
