Recently, more and more smoking rooms appear in public places. Railway stations, for example. There are "NO SMOKING" signs everywhere. According to a survey, the number of people dying of smoking reaches 2,500,000 every year around the world. Smoke is the first human murderer. Smoking has caused attention to many people. Then why are cigarettes still attracted to so many people? How can people managed to stop being a nicotine addict?

Firstly, with our society developing at an amazingly fast speed, people are under great pressure. As a result, people pursue cigarettes as a way to release their burden. Secondly, some people including the students think it cool to smoke. Smoking makes them feel excited. Besides, they feel they would become energetic after smoking. Some people also regard it as a way to attract the opposite sex. Thirdly, some people become addicted to smoking by imitating other people, especially the children. It's reported that nearly 80% people tend to smoke if his or her mother or father is a smoker.

The above are some reasons why people smoke. As we know, smoking can make the human feel headache and tired. It makes working efficiency drop and it causes many kinds of diseases. What's worse, second-hand smoke hurt the health of the family deadly as well the people around. In that way, how could we get rid of smoking successfully?

In my opinion, the key point is that smokers must have the desire from their deep hearts to quit smoking. Nothing is impossible as long as you put your mind into it. What's more, find motivations for them so that smokers are able to convince themselves of quitting smoking. In addition, try to make themselves focus on other things such as playing computer games and candy when they want to smoke .At last, the most effective way to quit smoking I think is to go see a doctor and using some medicine plus your determination to get rid of cigarettes.

It's a long and rough journey to quit smoking. However, smoking brings lot damages to smokers' own health and their family. It does also bring pollution to our living environment. Besides, smoking costs quite a lot of money, with which we can do a lot beneficial and meaningful things to the people who need it. Thus, you can keep a healthy body and gain a share of happiness from it. So we should stop smoking and form good habits so that we can spend our time learning useful and valuable things for our motherland and people, bringing contributions to our world. I highly recommend you quit smoking expert.

How does anyone quit smoking? Any success stories out there? What method worked for you?
My doctor said that cold turkey works best for most but the statistics I’ve read don’t seem to agree. They read that different things work best for different people and I’ve never made it for long with cold turkey. I’d love to hear what worked for others.

I went to a lifeline clinic in Jacksonville Fla – they have locations nationwide and got a shot for $350. It works by blocking the nicotene receptors – which means no withdrawl or carvings. It was nothing short of amazing as I had smoked 20 years and had no withdrawl!

My parents smoked obver 40 years and used Chantix successfully. Your doc has to write an Rx for this med.

Patches, gum, lozenges and such just didnt work for me – but may be something you wish to try first.

Many insurances cover stop-smoking meds and the IRS actually allows a $300 deduction for these treatments so save recipts if you have out of pocket expenses and itemize on your taxes!

The best way to quit is by researching all your options and talking to your doctor about what is best for you.

I can tell you I feel like a new person – I breathe easier, stopped snoring, can smell flowers blooming and food tastes different —better!

Goodluck and best wishes in smoking cessation success!

Is it better to quit smoking cold turkey with a support group or with NTR’s or medications?
I have been a smoker for 15 years. I am really sick of it. I want to quit, but haven’t been able to come up with a solid plan. I have joined an online support group, but that’s not enough. I am not sure which method to try. I would really like to try Chantix, but it is so expensive ($120 a month in my state) and insurance won’t help. So my options are really cold turkey, or Nicotine replacement.

In my research, I have learned that they both have about the same success rate, if you are commit to quitting and keeping quit.

What are you experiances? How many times did you have to try before you got it right?

I would like to only have helpful suggestions and ideas. No “Talk to your doctor” sarcatstic replys please.

To my knowledge I have never heard of anyone that has died from quitting the cigarette habit.
If you need to, or want to quit then here is what I would recommend.

      Distancing

In other words if you buy a pack or two of cigarettes to get you through the day then leave them in the car outside in the glove box and be sure that both the car is lock and also the glove box is locked.

Set up some rules. One for example is throw all but one ashtrays in the house away and keep only one in a separate room from where you do you smoking.

Now you have started the new rule. Lets look at this a little more in detail your cigarettes are in the locked glove box and your driving, well you can’t pull the key out of the ignition to unlock it, however if you stop along side the roadway you can unlock it and get one out and relock the glove box. And continue where you are going. This will get to be to much of an effort to do this so you will find that you are smoking less and less in the car.

Now for the house. If your going to have a cigarette then you have to go out side, unlock the car and unlock the clove box and get a cigarette then you have to lock everything back up and go into the house and get the ashtray which in another room, then you have your cigarette. After that head for the garbage can and dump the ashtray and then go to the sink and wash it, and put in back in that room separate from where you spend your time.

This distancing and aggravation that you are willingly putting your self through will do two things, it will lower the nicotine level in your body to where your mind with say it’s time for another trip to the car, but if it’s cold or raining out then good common sense will say (later)

It may take a few months to be able to fully make the decision that this smoking habit is now really a pain in the butt. And you’ll know that your making progress by the amount of trips you have to make outside to get a cigarette.

So the bottom line is that your not really quitting cigarettes.

This bottom line is, how much aggravation are you willing to put yourself through to continue to keep smoking.

      Hope this helps

Why do they say stop smoking cold turkey?
My husband and I are planning to quit smoking after the holidays. We have heard that it is best to set a date, and go from there. I have read the many pamphlets and talked to doctors, so I know what “they” say to do, but I don’t understand one thing. Why would they say quit cold turkey? Any type of drug that your body is addicted to needs to slowly be taken out of your system. If you stop suddenly, you are going to have withdrawals, which, from experience I can say are much worse than the thought of what will happen if I didn’t quit. I don’t understand. Is there something different between nicotine addiction and pain medicine addiction? I used to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day. I have cut back to a half of a pack. Next week, I am going to cut back to 5 cigarettes a day. I am hoping when the holidays are over, it will be easier for me to quit by doing this. What do you think? Will it hurt my success rate if I wean myself off of them or do they just say to stop cold turkey for another reason? I have had mutiple failed attempts at quitting, so I really want it to work this time. I was able to quit when I was pregnant for obvious reasons, but for some reason, I can’t quit without that large of a motivation. Yeah, yeah, my life depends on it, but if you don’t smoke, you don’t understand that you feel like you are dying when you first try to quit. Like I said earlier, I would choose dying of lung cancer over the withdrawal symptoms. So, how do I make it easier on myself?

There is no easy way to quit smoking, and when you take into account that the experts have said on numerous occassions that Nicotine is more addictive than heroin, I can see their point. The best thing I can offer you is this.
1.Plan a date not to far in the future, a couple of weeks is best
2.Decide on the method you wish to use, ie patches, gum, lozenges
3.dont talk to your friends and relatives about your plan, those who want you to succeed will be ok but those who dont have the courage to quit also will do what ever it takes to help you fail, like blowing smoke in your face and offering you ciggies every chance they get.
4.On the night you are giving up dont smoke every ciggie you have, leave a few in a packet and throw them in a drawer in an area you dont frequent, this becomes relevant when you go into panic and think “oh crap I have run out of ciggies, which triggers your desire to attend the local shop or servo to buy a pack
5.avoid coffee, cola, and Booze, and places you would normally go and enjoy a smoke
6.Day 1, get up and head to the shower, you have been a non smoker for 8 hours, at this point there is no nocotine left in your body (unbelievable but true, nicotine only lasts a couple of hours which is why you have the desire to have another smoke so often
7.apply your first patch, use gum or take a lozenge and head for bed, go back to sleep for a few hours, you are now around 12 hours non smoker
8.Lunch time rolls around and youre half way to a full day of not smoking, this is easy, have a light lunch, if you can sleep have a rest, if not a little light exercise wont hurt, then yes another lie down, drink plenty of water through out the day,
9.Dinner time comes and your worst part of the day is about to hit, your about to eat your first big meal that is usually followed by a ciggie and then a night of sittin in front of the TV smoking, GO TO BED EARLY
10.Day 2 get up and shower strait up, apply patch 2 or lozenge, gum, have a light breaky and go back to bed, drink plenty of water and get plenty of rest for the first few days.
Over activity hightens your craving for nocotine also, after the first 3 or 4 days you will be rested and feeling good about your self, you have accomplished a tiny step in the road to becoming a permanent non smoker, start back on your usual routine, less the ciggies, look at your hands, notice the yellow stain is almost completely gone from your fingers, your going to come across things you do in every day life that trigger smoking, like stopping at a red light, just jumping in the car, having a meal, drinking a coffee, each time you have this little trigger remind your self that you no longer smoke. As a treat on day 1 of week 2 head off to the movies, a place of non smoking and for the first time in ages watch the whole movie without the nagging feeling of oh crap another 1 1/2 hours till I can smoke. It is going to take a long time but the craving and triggers get less everyday, it takes a lot of thought to quit, reminding yourself many times that you no longer smoke is the key, dont give in to the triggers, just remind yourself “I no longer smoke and smile when you win. Good Luck with quitting

You just need more willpower. It’s kind of like a caffeine addiction, but with no physical effects. You may be bored and irritable for a week or so, but if you really want to quit you’re just going to have to deal with it. It’s not like you’re trying to quit heroin here. Try to find something that will keep your mind off it (i.e. exercise, video games, hang out with friends who don’t smoke). Good luck
