Help To Quit Smoking - Getting Motivation To Quit Again - Part One
Author: Thomas Leroy
Do you want to stop smoking ? Then you need help. First is you can get is from yourself, and that's what we call motivation.
Trying to quit and giving up, trying to quit again and giving up again doesn't mean you can not get motivated. Oh yes, I’ve been there myself. Sometimes a sad news like a friend just die from cigarrettes side effects wake the motivation up inside ourself. Sometimes, you get a bit ill and find it is so hard to recover from a simple cold, compared to how you were resistant in the past. Repeatedly getting bronchitis and allergies make us thinking long and hard. Even so, if stopping smoking is not something we really want to undertake, then what are the chances we’ll succeed ?
Would you like to do an exercise ? Take a sheet of paper and a pen, or open a word processing document window. Minimize -don't close !) this current window and do this. It's not a hard exercise, still you should really do it to start building your stop smoking plan.
There are some positive and negative reasons why you want to quit. Why do you want to stop smoking?
Start with the negative reasons, the pressure ones that bug you, for example "People say smell of smoke is annoying". Perhaps they criticize you for smoking, or being singled out when you leave the building to smoke is embarrassing for you. Perhaps not having the hability to recover your breath is annoying. Whatever they are, list all your reasons.
When you're done with the negative motivators, write your positive motivators. How does your non-smoker life looks like ?. Your close ones would certainly be proud of you. Perhaps you don't want your children to inhale some of your smoke anymore. You want yourself to be healthy, you want to be proud of yourself, you want to spare some money, you want to feel more energy. Take a few minutes to make your own list. Keep this list with your list of fears.
You will learn more about getting motivated again, and even learn how to ski.

How soon should I plan on qualifying for the Boston Marathon?
3 years ago while I was still smoking, I barely ran an 11:00 minute mile. Today I averaged an 8:29 mile at a 10k race, my best. I quit smoking for good after the LA cancer challenge race last year. But now I want to qualify for the Boston Marathon, which means I have to average faster than a 7 minute mile for 26.2 miles. My current workout mile is 7:30 minutes. So question is, how long do you think I would have to train to qualify for the Boston? I’m thinking Boston 2009, which will give me 2 local and one state marathons to use as a qualifier. I’m using Yasso Tempo runs and Runnersworld’s Training calculators for my current workouts, but that was when I planned on running a 4 hour marathon, so I’m familiar with the data. BTW, I’m 6’3″, 205 lbs (lost 12lbs, 8 to go). This question goes from my wife to, who relatively in the exact same situation I’m in, from quitting smoking, same workout program, major fitness improvement, weight loss, and same goal….. relatively.
First of all….WOW…what a life changing decision you made. Congratulations. You can always run Boston as a bandit, meaning not a qualifier…but I understand the need to set this goal and accomplish it. Two years is a great time frame. Plenty of time to build the mileage base you will need for the endurance and to do the speed needed to increase your pace. Marathons are an endurance event. 50 miles a week, including one really long run each week in the 12 to 15 mile range should be sufficient. Once a week, on a shorter run throw in some intervals or speed work…10 to 12 burst of speed, for 20 to 30 seconds, during a mid range run. You can increase the number of sprints and the length as you feel more comfortable. Remember these simple rules, your body learns endurance from running a long time, your body learns speed from running fast. Mix it up and the best of luck. No matter what happens, you are already a winner.

Is there any good online giving up smoking sites?
I have been smoking for 13 years and its time to give up. Its making me sick. Is there any good sites that have a online support (eg chat rooms, forums)!
5 years ago i found a site that had all of the above and a Quit calculator that told you how much money you have saved and how much longer you will live but i cant find it any more!!?
Can anyone help?
Stopping smoking after 13 years is hard. At that point it’s more than just a physical habit. It’s ingrained in your mind too. People that use hypnosis to help them stop smoking have 10x the chance of actually quitting smoking for good. But there’s a lot of scams out there that promote pseudo hypnosis/psychology without even using a real doctor to create the program.
I’ve just started a website to help people quit smoking. We have read over all the literature on the top programs on the market and read independent reviews on them to narrow down the top programs. There’s no point in wasting your time OR your money.
One of the top programs we found is called Akualani. It’s a hypnosis program and was actually developed by doctors and therapists.
Here’s a quick link to them if you want to check it out:

I invite you to review our site for any other information that might be helpful. I understand how hard it is and I applaud you for wanting to stop smoking. Good luck to you!
A few questions about the diet I just began…?
I’m 5 ft 10 and weigh approx 240lbs
I recently quit smoking and began going to the gym.
My daily routine consists of about 20 minutes on either a bike or a treadmill for a warm up, a 20 min medium muscle work out (diff musc. , diff days) and than I finish with another 20 min cardio session.
I’ve been eating healthy and eliminating any greasy or unhealthy foods.
I drink a Slimfast Optima in the morning (180 cal) and two normal sized well rounded meals for lunch and dinner.
My daily caloric intake is under 2k and according to some calculator i found on the internet I naturally burn 2800 calories.
I was wondering if there are any suggestions one can offer for this diet (of which I created from reading facts from the internet). I know I have to buy a fat caliper …but what else? Would one think I will achieve results?
i would say you are off to a good start, but you need to eat about 6 small meals a day rather than 3. by doing this, your metabolism will be moving faster and you will be less hungry throughout the day. i would suggest eating snacks such as fruit and nuts or even a protein shake between breakfast and lunch and between lunch and dinner. stay away from refined carbs (white flour, sugars) and eat whole wheat carbs and fruit. eat enough fiber (25-30g) and if you can, try to keep your protein intake as high as you can (shoot for 1 g per lb of bodyweight). hope this helps good luck
Smoking weed during first 2 months of pregnancy?
I feel terrible about this but as it turns out, I’m pregnant. I should be around 7 weeks now, according to some internet calculator, and as of today I have vowed to quit smoking weed. How much damage have I potentially caused, if any, to the fetus? I know that I’m going to feel really guilty if the baby is not 100% healthy and I’m hoping that won’t be the case
I’m looking for those who were in similar situations and have any advice
thanks
i went through the exact same thing. i didn’t know i was pregnant and i was drinking heavily pretty much everyday and smoking weed and cigarettes everyday. i found out i was a couple months pregnant and started freakin out!! since then i’ve had 4 different ultrasounds and so far the baby is developing just fine!! the doctor told me not to worry because the body is extremely resilient and knows to put the baby at top priority!! just stop doing what your donig and start taking care of yourself. my poor baby is one tough cookie, she went through that for her first couple months and a depression for about 5 months but everything is turning out fine so far =) i’m sure yours will be too. relax and enjoy your pregnancy!
