Tough Love Children Do Better In Life - Positive Parenting News
Author: Robert William Locke
What kind of parent are you? Strict? Let them be? I have news for you. If you believe in 'tough love ' parenting, and apply it, then your defiant children or problem kids have a much better chance of growing to be well-adjusted adults. Isn't that every parent's dream?
How do we know that 'tough love' is right? The Millennium Cohort Study, which analysed over 9,000 households in the UK found that with the right mix of 'tough love' (warmth, affection and discipline), that these kids were twice as likely to form better a better character by the age of five, than those kids whose parents were in the unmotivated or 'couldn't care less' category.
How can I apply this to my kids? You have to be able to set the limits and apply them fairly and also be consistent. Everybody in the family, from both parents, and siblings know what the bottom line is and are prepared to stick to it.
What skills will be my kids be able to acquire? Experiments show that kids will be able develop such key social skills as empathy, self-control. More importantly your kids will be able to control their emotions and so they are less.likely to have temper tantrums.
Who can help me to apply 'tough love'? All you need is to follow a good child behavior program. Wouldn't you like to be able to relax knowing that your kids are not going to fly off the wall or beat up their siblings? It would be great to think that moodiness and sulking and verbal abuse typical of defiant children are all going to be a thing of the past.

News of the World today – apparently Kate Mccann is begging for your help to prevent child abductions?
What a cheek, she says that her and Gerry Mcscam cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that european countries do not make ‘proper’ checks on people and dont protect childen adequately.
I am so angry at reading this, she apparently takes no responsibility for leaving her children at risk and ensuring that one of them came to harm. We still do not know whether Madeline was abducted or not and therefore, this recent publicity is merely another smoke screen to divert attention away from their own behaviour.
Notice that she has chosen the news of the world, the biggest scaremongering rag that ever was printed, to promote the lies.
thequietone – perfectly serious, what evidence do you know of that suggests that she was abducted for sexual purposes, rather than died via accident, which was then covered up, or whether she wandered out on her own and then was taken. do you know for a fact that someone broke/entered into the apartment and took one child, without the other 2, without waking the other 2?
this story is definitely hard to find the right answer of the rights and wrongs. but me myself as a mother of 4 would NEVER and i mean NEVER leave any of my children alone in a house while i go off and do something.but what i don’t understand is the hotel complex they where staying had a babysitting service for holiday makers,I’ve never used anything like that but if they wanted to go out that bad surely you would of hired one of them.and now all this time since that poor little girl has been gone the mother still takes the younger ones to a playgroup that is in another hotel complex where they stay alday . I’m sorry but maybe I’m missing something god forbid if anything happened to one of my kids but i would be dam sure that while that child was missing i would never let my other children out of my sight! i cant understand how any mother could allow that to happen. i think that there’s more to this story than there letting on!
So did anyone else let their child smoke at the age of ?
THREE?!!! WTF!!!
Anyone else hear this news this morning?
Subsequently the child will not be taken away from the mother & she’s received 40hrs community service.
Is this good enough? What are your views on what should be an appropriate punishment?
I’m still gobsmacked myself.
My daughter is 24, son 17 and I’d beat shit outta them if they smoked now, let alone 3!!
Having said that…many years ago, my son was 2, in his buggy. We were walking thru’ town after visiting a joke shop. His sister, then 10, had a joke cigarette and was blowing it to make smoke come out. Of course, the boy wanted a go, so her did! This woman came roaring up to me screaming her lungs out! (Not a good correlation, but hey!) I explained it was “dressing up/make believe!” The kids had pretend pots and pans, wigs, even toy guns, but neither has grown up to smoke or shoot things… This in no way excuses the stupid mother allowing her son to smoke real cancer sticks…she deserves to be ordered to do community service in a cancer ward.
Should smoking be banned in public parks?
I just heard on the news that there is a review on possibly banning smoking in public parks, to lower the risk of harmful effects of second hand smoking on children. What are your thought?
I think this is fairly ridiculous. Second hand smoke in the wide open outdoors? Your already breathing all the polutants from the factories, cars, and any other buisness near the parks. Unless you are parking your child 6 inches from a smoking adult the chances of them breathing anything harmful is very minimal. Why not just make smoking illegal and be done with it? That is where we are headed anyway.
Edit: I agree with Des on the cigarette butts. It is considered littering and should be enforced much more often for cigarette butts.
Should the USA follow the example of the UK and ban smoking in children’s films & TV shows?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/film-news/5621035/Popeye-to-be-given-18-certificate-for-smoking-pipe.html
I say YES they should! Children have been brainwashed by the tobacco company for too long now!
The tobacco company is still a company whether you like it or not. THey have a product to sell
besides, i haven’t seen a cigarette advertisement on TV in probably 10 years
What is the biggest development issues in Indonesia right now?
Would you say smoking prevalence and deforestation are the biggest developmental
issues in Indonesia?
I’d think so, since they don’t seem to have any rules restricting children smoking, with all the news about the 2-year old smoking in Indonesia.
And how about deforestation? Is poverty the reason why people still rely on mass cutting down
of trees?
Keep in mind the keyword, “developmental” issues
- It might be more relevant if people living in Indonesia respond, but you’re welcome to share your thoughts.
Dude, USA is pretty far away from Indonesia… You need to post your question in Yahoo!Answer Indonesia to get a response.
