New Arthritis Medication
Author: Rutchell Laquihon
Arthritis is a painful thing to have to endure for anyone. Although it does tend to present itself in the elderly, the younger people that are afflicted with this problem need preventive care just as much. Most doctors will prescribe the regular pain inhibitors and inflammation reducers, but these medications if taken over a long period of time can have harmful effects on the body. There is another, new arthritis medication that is being used more and more frequently that causes less to no side effects. It is a Cox-2 inhibitor.
The Cox-2 inhibitors are great alternatives to the regular NSAIDS medications that have been used for years. Doctors are now starting to prescribe the Cox-2 inhibitors as new arthritis medication because of the fewer side effects. Luckily there are many different treatments for arthritis, so the patient can explore, with the guidance of his or her doctor, and find the treatment that best suit them.
Cox-2 is an enzyme that causes pain the areas that arthritis occurs, so by using a Cox-2 inhibitor, the patient can stop the enzyme from being released and thus decrease the pain that goes with it. The regular medications that doctors have been prescribe perform the same function, but they also, if used for an extended period of time, have been known to cause severe side effects in the kidneys, liver, and central nervous system. Whereas, the Cox-2 inhibitors effectively block the pain enzyme but does not the other systems or enzymes of the body, and therefore, it decreases the number of side effects sometime to no side effects at all.
There is also the option of having an intravenous shot done. This treatment has the patient go into the doctor every eight weeks and has some very minor side effects. The main concern with having this procedure done is the more needle sticks the patient gets, the more sensitive the areas that are being stuck. This can also become very expensive if the patient does not have insurance that will cover this kind of permanent procedure.
Another possible drug is the Disease-Modifying Ant rheumatic Drugs that are made specifically for arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. These drugs are taken once daily and are generally associated with a few side effects. However, the drugs are also good for not only relieving the pain of arthritis but also for reducing the swelling at the joints that arthritis causes.
To conclude, there are a lot of different ways for someone to help himself or herself care for and sometimes even prevent the pain that comes with arthritis. The most common forms of pain reducer for arthritis are NSAIDS, and if the patient's doctor has prescribed the regular NSAIDS, the patient should be aware of the signs of the side effects of the drug. There is also the option of taking intravenous shots and oral medications that can be taken daily. However, with the use of the Cox-2 inhibitor, the patient can be virtually pain free as well as not have to worry about the side effects.

Has anyone had any luck with the new quit smoking drug, Chantix? when did you quit after starting it?
I have been taking Chantix for three days now and am wondering when I can expect to notice a difference. I’d also like to know how long after starting the medication should I plan to quit?
I started on 12/15/06 and quit 12/25/06. The day before I quit I noticed I wasn’t getting anymore pleasure from smoking. After 10 more days of two pills I have cut down to one pill a day. I still get an occasional urge but it goes away quickly. I really think it works well. I still haven’t had a puff.
Have you had good results with chantix to quit smoking?
I’m about to start the new medication chantix to quit smoking. I’ve smoked for about 20 years (1/2 pack a day) what are the good and bad to this medication? Did it work for you?
YES, ITS BEEN ABOUT A MONTH NOW CHANTIX WORKED FOR ME AND OTHER I’VE TALKED TO , BUT YOU HAVE TO STILL PUT FORTH THE EFFORT. WITH ME IT GAVE ME WEIRD DREAMS AND MY FACE BROKE OUT A BIT BUT THE RESULTS WERE WORTH IT. I SMOKED ABOUT A PACK A DAY FOR 17 YEARS
Has anyone tried the new RX Chantix to quit smoking?
My doctor suggested this medication for me as i am a heavy smoker (yes i know i should be ashamed). I have tried many times and several different ways to quit but as of yet i have not found anything that works for me, and i am motivated and ready but that nicotine just bites me in the a$$ everytime. My problem is it cost $150 for a months supply and i live on a fixed income. i just wanted to know if anyone has had any success trying this RX.
p.s Please no dirty answers, I am serious
If you’re motivated then Chantix would be good for you. I took it for almost 3 months (starting last October) and I quit smoking on day 8. Chantix did a great job on getting rid of the physical cravings. The behavioral side isn’t helped by the medicine so that’s where the motivation comes in.
There are a few side effects that appear to be rather common. Upset stomach, trouble sleeping and weird dreams seem to be the majority.
For me the upset stomach only lasted about 30 minutes after I’d take the medicine. It wasn’t pleasant but I figured it was a small price to pay. The weird dreams continued for me the entire time I took the medicine.
You’ll do great on the medicine! You might have a hard time affording it but after a couple of months just think about all of the money you’ll be saving in the future.
Has anyone ever used Chant ix to quit smoking?
I would like to quit smoking and try this new medication. I am also taking Effexor and trazadone for depression. Does anyone out there have any experiences in this type of situation? I would love feedback. Good or bad. Thanks in advance.
My Mother-In-Law has quit smoking for 8 months now since her Doctor recommended Chantix. A Co-Worker has not smoked in 1 Month now since taking Chantix. From what they both told me….Chantix is amazing. You will have NO desire to smoke. People may also smoke around you and it will NOT even make you want to have one.
As far as being on other Medicines….you need to talk to your Doctor.
Hope This Helps! Good Luck and Don’t Quit Quitting.
New drug to help you quit smoking?
I saw a commercial on tv for a pill you take for smoking cessation. It said that you take the medication, continue to smoke and that the urge to smoke subsides, making it easier to quit.
Does anyone know the name of that drug? If so, please let me know as soon as possible. I have lung surgery coming up in the next week or two. I want to start taking it prior to that.
Was it Chantix?
