    How long it takes for the effects of cigarette smoking to go away.?
    I WAS A CHAIN SMOKER FOR 40 YRS, I STOPPED 16 mths ago, but still feels to have a smoke sometimes. I can actually taste the nicotine. Honestly I do not want to go back there.

      I am almost 10 years on from having quit cold turkey. My biggest problem is dreaming that I am smoking and feeling all guilty about it and wondering what the f*ck I am doing to myself. And after I wake up, I STILL feel guilty about having smoked again, until I realize that I didn’t actually smoke anything. But I can taste the smoke in my mouth, and my lungs hurt like hell….

      Like I said, 10 years after the fact, and I still have to deal with these things.

      The only thing I can suggest is to just enjoy your increased health, and stop worrying about what your previous addiction is trying to do to you. It helps if you visualize your addiction as nasty little creatures trying to bore holes into your heart and lungs.

    Okay. I don’t want a speech. I know smoking is bad for you. I just want the facts. What are the physical effects of ONE cigarette per day? Just the effects and facts, please. I already know that smoking is bad. I already know that if you start out with one per day the chances that you will smoke more will increase. I know it’s not good for your body. But HOW? I want physical facts. Thanks.

      Just do a search for “smoking risk calculator” and type in the numbers. You’ll find that the effects are minor for a young person in reasonably good health. The real risk is that you’ll let it creep up on you and end up smoking more and more, so make sure you set a strict limit and stick to it.

    I’m wondering if anybody knows of data to show the contribution of cigarette smoking to CO2 emissions. There is the burning of tobacco that contributes directly, plus all indirect consequences from CO2 emissions from growing, processing, and transporting tobacco. products.

      Although, pollution caused from cigarette smoking is nil. There is a radioactive interaction when it is inhaled into the lungs producing a radioactive gas. The name of it slips my mind, It sounds like plutonium but it is not plutonium. That is actually what causes the cancer. It causes more cases of lung cancer than radon. If smoking in a building, that gas and nicotine can last for hours contained in a poor ventilated area. I had to do some research with this because of learning radiation safety and reading chest x-rays.

      As far as the CO2 goes, we exhale that anyway. But there are other gases that the cigarrette produces that is harmeful. This pollution is not as bad as a trip to the store in a gas guzzeling car.

    Does anyone know where I could find a science project about if cigarette smoking effects the oxygen level/heart rate of a person?
    I find subjects that already smoke.

      It certainly does. However, I don’t see how you can do a project on this, because you would be harming your subjects by having them smoke.
