Is Chantix™ (varenicline) available in South Africa? (The new drug that can help you to stop smoking)?
I found out today that Chantix was released this month in the U.S. But I just can’t find out whether it is available in South Africa yet, and would really like to know.
pay someone lots of money from us to ship it to you.
Chantix (Varenicline) quit smoking pill?
Is there a site I can go to that will tell me what this pill is? I understand that it is suposed to help someone quit smoking. I know that it is suposed to make someone lose interest smoking. What I would like to know… Is it an antidepressent? How does it work? What does it effect in the brain? So far all I can find is how great it is but it doesn’t explain in detail. I tried to ask the doctor but she was in too much of a hurry to get out of the room. (I will be changing doctors.)
Leosphere is dead on about how the pill works. However, using the patch while taking Chantix isn’t necessary. Chantix blocks nicotine from binding to receptors in the brain, so you won’t feel the effects of the patch anyway. Also, I’d like to add that it only lessens the withdrawl systems, you’ll still suffer a bit for the first week or two.
This page will tell you exactly what it is and how it works.

Good luck to both of you! I quit 2 months ago with Chantix, so if you have any questions feel free to ask.
Varenicline or Chantix availability in China?
I am a smoker currently living in Beijing and I have decided to give up. I have been reading about Zyban online as a possible option. However, during my research I saw about the new drug Chantix which is reported to be more effective than Zyban and have fewer side effects. Does anyone know if Chantix is available yet in China and if so what its Chinese name is?
Chantix. Same Name. More information about Chantix can be found here: http://www.121doc.com/champix.html?a_aid=fbb92383
Quit Smoking Pill… Chantix(Varenicline) or Zyban(bupropion) ?
Anyone have any experience with taking Chantix(Varenicline) or Zyban(bupropion) to quit smoking?
From what I’ve read it seems Zyban works better and Chantix is a fairly new drug for it. Varenicline is a partial antagonist of the niACH receptor and Bupropion is an antidepressant that acts as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, and nicotinic antagonist. Sounds similar in that they dumb/prevent the pleasure of smoking. Seems to me thought that the Bupr. sounds like it would work better since Varen. is only a partial nicotinic antagonist plus Bupr. being an antidepressent helps with the depressive moods associated with quitting.
So the Question: Anyone had experience with both or either or knew someone that has stories about it? Whats prescribed commonly? What side effects and or pros and cons for each did you experience?
Isnt a full nicotinic antagonist better than a partial? And why did they leave out the dopamine reuptake inhibitor?
I’ll try web-md on this too. Thanks
I’m not a smoker, so haven’t tried either personally, but patients I have seen who REALLY want to quit have had better luck with Chantix. It blocks that addiction area in the brain, supposedly.
The main side effect is nausea, and if you experience that, you can stay at the lower dose until your body gets used to it.
Good luck with quitting. I took care of several patients today who are long term smokers. We cut off a leg with dead, black toes (like this: http://medicine.ucsd.edu/clinicalmed/extremities-toe-gangrene2.jpg)
caused by vascular insufficiency on one, and fixed a carotid artery on another. Cigarettes are murder on our blood vessels. Quitting now can save you a LOT of trouble later on. Do whatever it takes to be successful!
Has anyone used Chantix (varenicline tartrate) to quit smoking?
Did it work?
Did you experience any of the side effects “In clinical trials, the most common adverse effects of Chantix were nausea, headache, vomiting, flatulence (gas), insomnia, abnormal dreams, and dysgeusia (change in taste perception), according to the FDA.”
How long did side effects last?
Would you recommend the use of Chantix to other smokers?
Yes, it worked. Yes, there are side effects, nausea and vivid dreams being the most common ones. I did have a couple more, but I quit, and it’s been 7 weeks that I am smokefree and 5 weeks since I stopped taking Chantix.
I blogged about my whole experience here: http://onchantix.com/blog/stan
There are also links to many other people who blogged about their experience quitting smoking using Chantix: http://onchantix.com/weblinks
I hope this helps!
