Champix – Can you Take With AntiDepressants?
Is it similar to Zyban where in if you are currently taking antidepressants, you are not able to take Zyban? Does it work the same way? How many have tried it with success, or not?
I suppose I should clarify, I live in Canada, and this drug is in the preliminary steps to being approved here. I successfully quit using Zyban 6 years ago, however, my husband still smokes like a chimney and I’d liek to see something that will help him. I’m just gathering info right now, I don’t even know how much a pharmacist would help right now since it’s not approved yet.
The best way to get a good reliable answer to this would be to talk to your pharmacist or doctor. People should utilize their pharmacists more than they do- they are often a wealth of information, and while they cannot personally recommend medications, they get alot of feedback on how meds work for people, having seen people all the time getting medications from different problems. And, they can tell you what meds are safe together, and what problems/side effects to look out for.
Champix….?
Hi, i have just started taking champix to help me quit smoking, i am on my fourth day, i was juts wondering how effective this is and how long it will take to kick in.
I was told that it will start to make my cigarette taste horrible and i will smoke less before finally quitting, how long does it take for the cigarettes to start tasting awful.
Thanks, but my tablets are called Champix, i have the box right here.
we are also on CHAMPIX, week 4, not had a ciggie since day 5, doing really well, don’t even think about having one. gone from 40 a day to zero, well pleased. think this is going to be the time we acually succeed…yipee
Question for people who have taken Champix to stop smoking
I’ve had these pills now for about six weeks. A family member had recommended them to me as she knew someone who was a heavy smoker and had managed to quit by using Champix. Then after I got them, she advised me not to take them as some guy had killed himself while he was on them.
I’m a bit scared about taking them now, as I’m prone to depression anyway. I’ve had quite bad reactions from antidepressants, where I would feel extremely anxious, panicky and just completely out of it. I couldn’t leave the house and couldn’t really do anything, I looked like I was completely out of my face on drugs. I don’t really mind having some physical side effects, but am very wary about taking something which might affect me mentally.
I’d like to hear about any of your experiences of Champix. Especially from people who have taken it and are also prone to depression. I would like to at least try it as I really do want to stop smoking but just find it so difficult. I don’t really understand how someone could have taken them and got to the point where they killed themselves, and not realised that this drug was affecting them.

Champix (USA – Chantix) and depression problems? Help!?
I really want to give up smoking and last night went to a smoking cessation class where they suggested I go onto Champix as it has really good results and is the new wonder drug with giving up nicotine.
However, I’m really worried as I have read that it has been related to suicide, depression and psychosis!
At the moment i’m a bit low in mood (wouldn’t say its depression though) and i’m worried how it’ll effect me, but at the same time i’m desperate to give up the fags! I’ve tried patches and they only work for a short period of time for me.
I also had a look on yahoo answers at previous comments people had made about Champix and one person said they lost their job and their life just got so messed up which they’ve attributed to Champix! they say not to take Champix if you’re depressed which is why I mentioned my low mood at the moment.
Any one got any advice from their own or someone else’s experience?
I used Champix to quit smoking. I have stayed quit now for a year. I would approach with great caution, particularly when you say you’re already in low mood. I personally don’t think they should be prescribed to people who’re a bit low or depressed. I lost my brother 2 years ago and wanted to quit smoking, i was still grieving him when i quit and my mood and head was all over the place. Understandably.
At first, i felt really euphoric, this lasted for a few months and then i noticed my moods change for the worse. I got really moody, found myself getting snappy and i split with my then boyfriend after 8 months. I also felt like i didn’t want to live, which is so not like me and although grieving, i knew i didn’t want to end up in a grave myself. I was on Champix for 7 months.
Longer than the standard 12 week course but the nurse said to me i had greater chance of quitting if i continued with the course. I had been smoking 15 years so i believed her and continued taking them. My moods worsened, i starting becoming paranoid, snapped a lot at my then boyfriend and could feel a rage within me i’d never experienced before.
My advice, take care whilst taking them. This is a very powerful drug and if you feel like something isn’t right. Stop taking them. It’s not worth it. I have only just started to feel normal again and i only stopped taking the drug November ’08. So who knows how long it takes for the drug to clear out our bodies. I will be very careful what goes into my body in future.
