I have not smoked for 15 days?
I have not had a cigarette for 15 days?
I’m on Champix. This is the new drug on the market. It is not NRT. It works on the old brain to stop the withdrawral symptoms and also works as a blocker, ie if you smoke a fag you don’t feel any of the usual effects.. Its some good stuff. I do have one problem with it though, I am having some very odd dreams and nightmares. Is/has anyone else used this drug? and do these dreams go away in time. It’s very upsetting some nights…Like last night was really bad, I was a wreck first thing this morning. Still, better that (I guess) than a cig.
It’s called Chantix in the US, same thing though. I will try changing the time I take it at night and see how that work.. thanks
The dreams are/can be a side effect.
Nice one dream keep it up. The nightmare are getting easier now thank god!!!

      Congratulations!!!

Thanks to the advice you gave me, I got Champix and have also stopped (last Tuesday).

I couldn’t e-mail you, as promised without making my e-mail address accessible to everyone. Sorry about that!

I’m sorry to hear about the nightmares, I am having no side effects whatsoever – and I am not even thinking about smoking. These tablets are pure magic! As you know, I had tried every NRT product on the market – and could not stop.

I take mine at 9 am, and 9 pm.

Hopefully the nightmares will end soon – as you say – it’s gotta be better than smoking.

Thanks again – I had never heard of Champix until you told me about them.

Good luck – and keep going – we’ll make it this time! X

    Breathlessness but not coughing?
I quit smoking 3 months ago, I took Champix for 3 days and haven’t used any NRT’s or had a cig since. I do not have a cough, but I am breathless. I find it worse at night, lying down is near impossible. I feel like I can’t fill or empty my lungs properly.
I am slightly overweight, but I exercise everyday, and also have 2 small children!
I do suffer with anxiety but not sure if this is due to that. When I take a deep breath, it hurts in between my breasts and in my back. I do have large breasts, which I’m sure aren’t helping.
What do you think it is? Any tips on sleeping better?

I smoked 20 per day for approx 10 yrs.

Get it checked out if its worrying you,I quit smoking ten years ago and also felt like i could not fill my lungs with air, having said that i was grossly overweight, i smoked on average about 30 a day ,to my shame.Anxiety can cause you to feel breathless,as can panick attacks, Well done on quitting ,you wont regrett it,i never have, but worrying about it will make it worse so for you,r own peace of mind go and see you,r G.P.we all react diffrently to sutiuations.Happy New year.

    Stopping smoking?
I have been prescribed champix (it is called this in the uk) and gave up on day 8, thought this was brill as I actually found it really easy (over 20 years of smoking 20-30 a day!) but I have also had terrible insomnia and panic attacks, so i decided on day 14 to stop taking the champix and go onto the nicorette inhalator, it has been 7 days now and although i am still not smoking and only using 2 nicorette cartridges a day, i am worried about withdrawal from the nicotine cartridges, has anyone sucessfully given up using NRT and if so how long was it until the cravings went away and how long have you been smoke free?

I have heard alot of people complain about the prescribed drugs for quitting smoking gives them trouble sleeping or severe nightmares.
I quit for 9 years then something silly put me back on the cigarettes but recently, I decided to stop again and have now been a non-smoker again for 4 months. I have never used NRT and just went for will power and cold turkey! I’ll tell you now, it’s really difficult but if you can do it without the NRT, it will be alot better in the long run, as you will not be left with a dependency on NRT which you then have to wean yourself off of.
      Good luck with the quitting.

I used the patch and gum and both made me have weird dreams that were super vivid. Everyone I know or have met that went with alternate forms of nicotine had strange dreams and sleeping issues.

After a month the cravings will be very infrequent. After a week or two, cigarettes will taste horrible. I ended up having to quit a second time and found that just quitting cold turkey was faster to eliminate wierd symptoms than NRT.

The articles linked below helped me better understand what my body was going through and how I could mitigate unpleasant symptoms.

      I haven’t had a cigarette since 2002.
