Top Super Bowl Commercials 2010 – Funny Is Back

Author: Charles Essmeier

The Super Bowl is a lot of things in American culture. First and foremost, it's the championship game of the National Football League. It's one of the most popular days of the year for getting together with friends. And it's the biggest day of the year for television advertisers.

At one time, advertisers for the Super Bowl consisted of the usual companies that advertise during sporting events – shaving products, beer, and car ads were the most common. The increasing popularity of the event has turned the game into one of the most-watched television events of the year. Since the game provides a rare opportunity to reach a hundred million people at once, all kinds of companies now advertise during the game who would not ordinarily advertise during a sporting event. Advertisers still include beer and car companies, but also include snacks, soft drinks, job-search Websites, and wireless communications companies.

The competition is so high among advertisers that they often spend millions of dollars creating ads that are memorable in some way. The most popular type of ads for the Super Bowl are those that present the product in a humorous way. Such ads are more likely to be remembered by consumers and are also more likely to be passed around via e-mail and other file sharing sites.

According to polls of viewers, the most popular ads shown during the 2010 Super Bowl were:

  • The Mars/Snickers ad showing Betty White and Abe Vigoda playing football
  • The Doritos commercial showing a dog placing an electric collar on his owner
  • The Budweiser commercial where a man builds his house out of beer cans
  • The Budweiser commercial showing that fences cannot keep friends apart
  • The Coca-Cola commercial depicting a man sleepwalking across Africa
  • The Audi commercial showing their driver avoiding the “green police”
  • The E-Trade commercial showing a baby chatting with his girlfriend
  • The Budweiser commercial showing a community building a human bridge
  • The Bridgestone tire commercial with a bachelor party and a whale
  • The Monster (job site) commercial showing a fiddle-playing beaver

The consensus of critics is that the ads were lighter in tone and funnier than in the past two or three years, where the ads tended to be a bit gloomy. Advertisers are hoping that lighter ads will work better in a sagging economy. Based on the polls of viewers who saw the game, the ads seem to have been successful. Of course, the real answer, as always, comes during the next few weeks and months, as advertisers determine if their ads actually translated to increased sales in products. At a cost of .2 million for a 30 second ad, selling goods is the ultimate bottom line.

Myth or Fact? – Quitting smoking makes you gain weight.?
If I quit smoking I will gain weight…

I’m trying to lose about 35 pounds by May 2010, which isn’t too difficult of a goal. I run 4 miles on the treadmill 5 days a week, and lift weights as well. Regardless of all of this, I’m afraid I’m going to gain weight, if I quit smoking. Am I just being nervous, or is there any facts to back up the fact that I will gain weight?

Quitting smoking doesn’t make you gain weight.
Eating more food or exercising less makes you gain weight.

However, quitting smoking can increase your appetite, because when you are smoking, your appetite is being suppressed by the chemicals in the cigarette. When you are no longer inhaling them, you are more likely to binge.

But this doesn’t mean you are doomed, you are in control. You could try replacing your smoke with a mug of green tea, or a big glass of ice cold water, both of which are very good for your health, weight loss, and suppress your appetite.

Just watch what you eat, and keep exercising, remember, this will become easier as your lungs recover! Pay attention to what you are eating, and stay strong.

Do not know how to express gratitude?
Yesterday I put a question on yahoo answers seeking help to quit smoking in 2010. I am so overwhelmed with the number of answers I have received that I have no words to express my gratitude. So I take this ask your question channel to express my sincere thanks for all those who have helped in boosting me to quit the dirty and dangerous habit of smoking. In fact from today itself I have stopped smoking. I used to smoke five cigarettes a day.

I will keep all my yahoo answer mates updated about my progress with regards to my effort in quitting smoking. I do not mind losing five points by asking this question. I know my expression of gratitude is worth a million!!!!!

I also take this opportunity to wish each and every member of yahoo answers a happy and prosperous 2010. This site is really a marvellous one and teaches the world that we are all one and we are here to help one another, regardless of our colour, religion, race, country etc.

    MAY GOD BLESS ALL

Thanks for your skillfully worded question. People have a hard time expressing gratitude. First is confession and the rest is easy. Hang in there.

    Legalization of marijuana 2010 ballot.?
I hear that this year in 2010 that the legalization of pot is going up on the ballots. Can anyone confirm or deny this I am rather curious as I am not smoking at this moment due to the fact it is illegal and because my parents got rid of my 215 card. However they wont pester me if it is legal and I am a legal voter in the state of california.

what should i do if my girlfriend keeps accusing me all the time that i smoke? ( i dont)?
my girlfriend constantly has it in her head that i smoke while she is at school. everytime she does this i tell her to get a drug test, search my room whatever it takes for her to finally once and for all accept i dont smoke. she is convinced i do. im 16. homeschooled. just got a job but havent started working yet and i live with her. how would i smoke with no money? i admitted to her that i used to smoke for years but she was with me the final time i quit because it was the first(and only)time she ever smoked. ive given that part up. not for me. not for my girlfriend but because my grandma(who up until feb 2010 i lived with alone) had cancer and was dieing. her cancer was from her excessive drinking which she did because she couldnt handle the stress from when my gandfather died. i ouldnt handle that stress either since i had to take care of my grandma so she didnt kill herself sooner by drinking too much in one night. i also had to stop my grandma and older bro from fighting all the time. (he finally moved out a few years ago) anyways all this led up to me becoming pretty dependant on smoking to relieve stress. now since she died ive not smoked once. and my girlfriend should know that because im considerably more stressed out now than i have ever been around her. somehow she is still dead set on me being a chronic smoker like i used to be. i dont understand where i would get money for this or how i would even be able to hide the smell from the entire house. my room is on the 3rd floor( 3 floor house with the 1st floor rented out) and i live in the middle of a bad part of a big city. lots of drugs and gang around. smoke rises. yet she thinks i will still be smoking in the day while she is at school and her dad is at work. her dad has seen us fighting about this stuff and he doesnt think i smoke. he also knows about my past experiences with weed. i have lied to her once in the past but i would never again about this. it was before i even knew her.(only a few days after i first met her and i just didnt want to make a bad impression because even back then i wanted to stop smoking and knew she would be willing to help me.she has trust issues as it is but she trust me more than she trusts her family.(even her dad who she has always been closer to than anyone else) whenever she accuses me of this i always tell her to go search my room or the entire house or whatever she needs to. i tell her when her dad gets back we will go to the store to get a drug test but she is always quick to apologize after i say the drug test one. she knows i dont smoke. in fact minutes before writing this i confronted her about this and she told me she knows i dont smoke. the thing is this has been going on for over 2 months now and its putting a lot of stress on me that i dont need after losing my grandma, being outcast by my family, taken from the only home ive ever know, all my friends and my 2 dogs and 2 cats which i loved dearly. in a sense i lost everything but her and she doesnt realize that nor do i think she cares because she still puts shit like this on me daily… what should i do to get her to once and for all believe me?

What is John F-ing Kerry smoking?
Times are tough, especially among those still looking for good jobs, but Sen. John Kerry doesn’t think Washington’s to blame. In fact the former Democratic presidential candidate, concerned with the anger voters are aiming at Washington, says that his party and President Obama are doing a ship-shape job.
